One of the four Roscommon senior footballers that made their senior league debut against Down on Sunday last has been selected on the first GAA.ie Team of the Week of the season.
Defender Colm Neary capped a memorable display by taking one of the corner-back slots in this week’s team.
Daniel O’Flaherty and Cillian Ó Curraoin from Galway are the only other Connacht players to make the team that features players from all four divisions of the Allianz Leagues.
Neary, who made his debut alongside Tim and Senan Lambe, and Pearse Frost on Sunday, was Player of the Match for Strokestown in the 2022 Roscommon Senior Football Final, but has suffered an injury-disrupted career since.
He returned to Strokestown colours during the club’s intermediate football championship campaign last season, and was handed his first intercounty start at senior level by Davy Burke for Sunday's Division Two League game against Down at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park.
