One of County Roscommon’s most talented young footballers has been earmarked as “one to watch” for 2025.

Shane McGinley from Strokestown, who was part of Roscommon’s successful U-20 football panel in 2024, has been listed by GAA.ie as one of five young Gaelic footballers to keep an eye on this year.

“Prolific at U-20 level for Roscommon in 2024, Shane McGinley is a potent attacker.

“It will be interesting to see can McGinley develop further in the coming weeks and months.

“The Strokestown forward nailed 4-31 in five EirGrid U-20 matches in 2024, including 1-5 when Roscommon were soundly beaten in the All-Ireland semi-final, 3-18 to 3-8, by Tyrone,” read the citation on GAA.ie.

McGinley was listed alongside Eoghan Frayne (Meath), Eoin McElholm (Tyrone), Tadhg McDonnell (Louth), and Luke Breathnach (Dublin).

The talented forward, who was part of the Strokestown intermediate football panel that were beaten by Elphin in last year’s county final, is currently training with the Roscommon senior football panel and will hope to make his debut for Davy Burke’s team during the forthcoming Division Two League campaign.
