A Hollywood actor has referenced how a defeat to Roscommon was one of his toughest sporting moments.

Gladiator star Paul Mescal recalled how the Kildare minor footballers losing out to Roscommon in the All Ireland quarter finals in 2013 proved a bitter pill to swallow.

He told Off The Ball that Kildare entered that game with momentum after beating Dublin earlier in the campaign.

“We beat the Dubs in Parnell Park in the minor semi final, which was a boiling hot day. We played extraordinarily well and went on to win the Leinster before we got knocked out by Roscommon in the All Ireland quarter final. Devastating. That is forever going to be sore. It is sore still.”

Roscommon prevailed 3-8 to 0-12 as Diarmuid Murtagh, Diarmuid McGann and Ultan Harney netted.
