Olivia Costello has made an excellent start to the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Carton House.

The Roscommon Town native, who is playing in her third Irish Open, posted a 71 (-2) at the Maynooth course.

Costello, who is the youngest player in the field at 16 years of age, thanked Roscommon supporters who lined the course after her round, adding that she was honoured to be playing on the same course as some of the biggest names in the game, such as Ireland's Leona Maguire and Stephaine Meadow who represented their country at the recent Olympic Games in Paris.

Costello is currently tied 22nd, just one shot behind Leona Maguire. She’s due out on the O’Meara Course later this morning, although tee times have been slightly delayed because of fog.
