Local chess team making the right moves

The Drum/Clonown U-13 chess team that will compete in next weekend's Community Games national finals.
All roads lead to City North Hotel, Dublin, for the Drum/Clonown U-13 Community Games chess team as the South Roscommon area represents its county and province at the national finals.
It is the first year that Drum/Clonown have entered a chess team in Community Games, competing in both the U-11 and U-13 categories.
The U-11 team got knocked out at county level but the U-13 team won the Roscommon title on April 7th and added the Connacht crown on April 20th after beating Galway and Leitrim on their way to provincial glory.
The team train once a week in Monksland Community Centre with coaches Niall Gallagher and Paul Coughlan giving up their Thursday evenings to coach the group.
The U-13 team comprise of Nikodem Zamiar (captain), Adhiraj Bhushan, Cormac Gallagher, Fionn Fallon, Aaron Sheehy and Eleanor Neary. The team have bonded so well as most of them didn’t know each other before coming together in February.
