The O’Rourke sisters will be boxing for medals later today at the European Elite Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Both Aoife and Lisa step into the ring knowing that victory in their respective quarter-final bouts will guarantee the Castlerea boxers at least a bronze medal.
Reigning 75kg world champion Aoife O’Rourke makes her tournament debut in the evening session in Ring A.
Her 75kg fight is scheduled for Bout 3 where she will face Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska, the reigning world champion at 80kg.
Aoife is expected to be in action at approximately 4.30 p.m. Irish time, with a win securing her at least a bronze medal and a place in the semi-finals.
Later in the same session and also in Ring A, younger sister Lisa, boxing at 80kg, will be hoping to join her sibling on the podium and into the last four of this weight division.
The 2022 world champion and 2025 world silver medallist faces another formidable opponent in England’s Emily Asquith, a world boxing silver medallist last year.
Lisa is expected to be in quarter-final action at approximately 5 p.m., with both fights available to watch on the RTE player.
