O’Rourke sisters find out path towards potential European glory
Aoife and Lisa O'Rourke are in Bulgaria for the European Elite Boxing Championships.
Castlerea sisters, Aoife and Lisa O’Rourke, have been handed their paths towards potential glory at the European Elite Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, which get underway on Thursday.
Reigning world champion, four-time European champion and double Olympian, Aoife O’Rourke will begin her 75kg campaign with a quarter-final bout next Tuesday, meaning she’s one victory away from a medal.
Her sister Lisa, who won the world championships in 2022 and was a silver medalist in 2025, will box in the 80kg division for the first time, facing a last 16 bout against Vasiliki Stavridou of Greece in Saturday's evening session.
The European Elite Championships is a World Boxing ranking event in which 33 federations are eligible to participate.
The championships will be broadcast live on Eurovision Sport, with the RTÉ player set to broadcast selected bouts.
