Roscommon Community College have claimed their inaugural basketball title.
The Town based school won the Midlands Schools Second Year basketball title with 45–23 victory over St. Mary’s of Edenderry.
Their quick start to the contest paved the way for this success as they raced 17-2 in front. Ben McHugh McRory and Tommy Hayes led the way as Roscommon Community College surged clear.
The second quarter saw Marek Janicki take centre stage, hitting 10 points to further extend RCC’s advantage. By half-time, RCC had built a commanding 27–8 lead.
Even though their Edenberry based foes threatened a comeback early in the third quarter, RCC remained composed as they led 41–15 heading into the final quarter.
With the result firmly in their grasp, RCC focused on disciplined defence in the closing stages to see out the game and secure an historic 45–23 win.
