Five County Roscommon natives have been named in the Connacht squad for Saturday’s BKT United Rugby Championship clash against Benetton Rugby at Stadio Comunale di Monigo (kick-off at 1 p.m.).
Former Ireland number 10, Jack Carty, returns to the side to win his 207th cap and will captain the team from out-half.
Niall Murray from Brideswell has been selected in the second row, with his brother Darragh, who recently signed a new two-year contract with the province, on the bench.
Colm Reilly from Creagh and former Creggs player, Denis Buckley, are also named among the replacements.
“Tomorrow is a hugely significant game for both ourselves and Benetton. There is very little between the teams from fourth to 11th in the URC table, and one result can any team make a big rise up the standings,” said Connacht Head Coach, Peter Wilkins.
Meanwhile, Aoibheann Reilly — sister of Connacht scrum-half Colm — has retained the number 9 jersey on the Ireland women’s team for Sunday’s Six Nations game against Italy at the RDS.
Scott Bemand’s side produced a credible showing against France last weekend and will be hoping to garner their first win of the campaign when the action gets underway in Ballsbridge at 3 p.m..
The game will be broadcast live on RTÉ television.
