Lauren Shanagher spearheaded her side's Connacht semi final win over Swinford Killasser.

Northern Harps progressed through to the Connacht LGFA intermediate final as Lauren Shanagher’s last gasp free kick helped her side to a 4-14 to 5-10 win over Swinford Killasser.

The win ensures the Elphin/Ballinameen outfit will play Menlough/Skehana in the Connacht final on Saturday, November 1st.

This was an absorbing contest which Northern Harps started at a blistering pace. They led 2-3 to 0-1 after the opening quarter with Ciara Cunningham and Lauren Shanagher finding the net.

Swinford Killasser came roaring back as Sarah Rowley, Caitlin Henry and Melissa Devaney (penalty) all netted in the second quarter. But, Northern Harps, aided by four opening half points from play by Shauna McGrath, still led 2-9 to 3-3 at the break.

The Mayo side were even sharper in the third quarter as Regina Mullaney plundered 1-2 in the opening seven minutes of the final half.

When Rhona Brennan added her side’s fifth goal alongside points from Melissa Devaney and Regina Mullaney to move Swinford Killasser 5-9 to 2-12 up, Northern Harps’ campaign looked to be over.

Ciara Cunningham bagged her second goal to revive Northern Harps’ hopes but points from Regina Mullaney and Henry left Swinford Killasser 5-10 to 3-12 up.

Yet, Northern Harps bagged 1-2 without reply as Grace Cullen netted before Shanagher tied the game. When the outstanding Shauna McGrath was fouled, Shanagher nailed the game winning free to book her side’s Connacht final place.

Lauren Shanagher told the Roscommon Herald that she was delighted with the way her side dug deep to secure a Connacht final berth.
