One of Roscommon’s generational ladies’ footballers could be in line to make a sensational return to the intermediate panel for Sunday’s All-Ireland final against Fermanagh in Croke Park.
Having spent some time in Australia with Sydney Swans alongside suffering two cruciate injuries since the last time she played for Roscommon over four years ago, Jenny Higgins has revealed that the “stars have aligned”, and she’s available for selection ahead of the team’s first appearance at GAA headquarters in 25 years.
“It has been a long 20 months since I played football. Particularly the last couple of months there has been one setback after the other.
"But, I suppose, Marie (Kelly), Finbar (Egan) and the management team have stayed true and believed in me, kept me involved and told me to keep working away in the background and that I’d make the All-Ireland final. Thankfully the stars have aligned, and it has worked out.
“We’ve had some fantastic teams throughout the years. I’ve been playing quite a long time at this stage. Every year you thought it was going to be the year, but it really is so hard to get to Croke Park on All-Ireland final day.
“We have been in semi-final after semi-final, but we never seemed to get over the line. It’s fantastic that the team have pushed on and got over that hurdle of the semi-final. I’m just delighted to be part of it,”
