WATCH: ‘We saved the best for last’

St. Croan’s defender Ella Thompson admitted that Roscommon saved their best performance of the season for the day that mattered most.
Just like 25 years ago — when Roscommon last played in Croke Park and won the All-Ireland junior final — Finbar Egan’s side performed heroically to ensure that the Mary Quinn Cup will be crossing the River Shannon on Sunday evening.
Thompson was a bundle of energy down the left flank, hitting two superb points into Hill 16 in the second half to help cement a comfortable 2-12 to 0-6 victory.
"It’s unbelievable," declared Thompson under the bowels of the Cusack Stand.
"Just looking around Croke Park at the celebrations, it means so much to us. We’ve worked so hard over the last few years. To finally get over the line is just such a huge honour.
"We’ve been going from strength to strength. We had a rocky start to the championship but we’ve pushed on. We improved against Cavan, and took a lot of learnings from that game. Finally, we saved the best for last.
"We’re such a close group of girls. We’ve such a small panel, and that’s what stuck to us. We work so well together and play so well together. It really means a lot to get here with that group of girls," she said.
