Clean-up continues after vaping incident in garda station

Edenderry Garda station is to remain closed as gardaí investigate an incident involving seized vape products that led to two gardaí being taken to hospital.

Both have been released from hospital after becoming unwell while processing seized cannabis vape products in Co Offaly station.

The incident happened on Wednesday. It is now understood that the two gardaí inhaled chemicals after the vape devices leaked.

Speaking on Newstalk on Thursday, vice president of the Garda Representative Association, John Joe O'Connell said: "The two members that were involved were going through and were overwhelmed with whatever chemicals were released, whether that's through leakage of whatever was contained in the oils or vapes or even the power sources of those vapes."

In an earlier conversation with Newstalk, O'Connell stated that the officers were "processing vapes with alleged cannabis content."

“Policing services in the area are being provided from Tullamore Garda Station,” according to a garda spokesman.
