Local fishing tournament a success

Michael Donnellan presenting joint winners for 2025 Derek Madden and Gary Madden with the Donnellan Cup.

Lough O'Flynn was the venue for the Donnellan Perpetual Cup on Sunday last with a excellent turn out of 15 boats in what was a keenly contested event.

The Donnellan cup is fished in memory of Noel Donnellan, Ballinlough and is generously sponsored by the Donnellan family annually.

The Lake O"Flynn anglers would would like to thank the Donnellan family for their continued support and sponsorship of our club over the years.

The club members would also like to acknowledge and thank the additional sponsors of this event most notably Pat Murphy, Connacht contractors, Ballinlough, and Phillip Webster, Plant hire, Castlerea.

Anglers were greeted to testing trout angling conditions with water temperatures rising and summer weather to the fore.

Nevertheless numbers on the water nearly always ensure that some anglers get lucky.

The local Madden team of Gary and Derek had the heaviest boat catch on the day with the heaviest fish prize going to John Finn, Roscommon.

Most successful angling methods on the day were dry daddies and sedges for some, with humongous, invicta muddlers, and silver dabbers also successful.

Results as follows: 1st Gary Madden and Derek Madden, five fish 7lb 08.0 oz.; 2nd Dan McDermott and Ronan Baggott, four fish, 5 lb 05.2 oz.; 3rd Marcus Kennedy and Paul Dighnam two fish 3lb 04.4 oz.; 4th Paddy Purcell and Bill Thomas, two fish 2lb 08.2 oz; Heaviest fish: John Finn, Trout, 2lb 02.0 oz. Next club event will be the Baggott cup which will be fished for on Sunday, September 7th.
