GRANDPARENTS’ DAY 

A prayer service of mark Grandparents’ Day will take place in Ballinagare National School on this Tuesday (24th, today) at 1.10 p.m.. Refreshments will be served.

25 CARD GAME 

25 card nights on Thursdays from 8.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Tibohine Community, €2 per person to keep the lights on. All welcome.

LATE MRS OLIVE DOWD 

The death occurred peacefully of Mrs Olive Dowd, Slieveroe, Tibohine and late of New Street, Ballaghaderreen on Thursday, February 19th last at Roscommon Hospice. Predeceased by her parents, Richard and Molly, the late Mrs Dowd (née Chandler) will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her husband, Tim; children, Olivia (Michéal), Ray (Orlagh), Christina (Christopher) and Mary (Gary); grandchildren, Molly, Jamie, Jessica, Alex, Ruby and Ollie; brothers, Richard (Galway) and George (London)l sisters Mary (Sligo) and Anne (Galway); nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, February 21st last in St. Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen, cremation took place afterwards at Lakelands Crematorium in Cavan.

LATE MR JOEY FLANAGAN 

Mr Joey Flanagan, Ross, Elphin passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20th last at Roscommon University Hospital. Father of Patty Bruen, Ballinagare, Joey (90) was predeceased by his parents Edward and Delia, brothers, Jimmy and Paddy, sisters, Maisie, Annie and Kathleen and grandchildren Gavin and April. He is deeply regretted by his loving wife, Ena; sons and daughters, Noel, Mary (Anthony), Patty (Dermot), Seamus (Eilish), Damien (Kim), Majella (John), Niall (Sinead) and Norman; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. His remains were removed from Brady’s Funeral Home, Elphin, to St. Catherine’s Church, Killina on Sunday evening last. Following Requiem Mass on Monday, February 23rd, Joey was laid to rest in Killina Cemetery.

Pray for the repose of the souls of Ms Lucy Collins, Dublin (grandniece of Ethna Drudy, Frenchpark); Mrs Irene Scahill, London (sister of the late Kathleen Cassidy, Clegernagh, Frenchpark); Ms Anne Roche, Barrack Street, Ballaghaderreen and formerly of Killala; Mr Brendan Leech, Corristoona, Ballintubber and Mr Eric Dane, Los Angeles, California. May they rest in peace.

CHURCH NEWS 

Masses will be held in Tibohine Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (24th), Frenchpark at 7 p.m. on Thursday (26th), Ballinagare at 7 p.m. on Friday (27th), Tibohine at 6.30 p.m. and Ballinagare at 8 p.m. on Saturday (28th) and in Frenchpark at 10 a.m. & Fairymount at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, March 1st next. Spring collection envelopes in support of the clergy are available in all churches. Sincere thanks for your continued generosity and support.

HEALING MASS 

Fr. John Keane and Deacon Don Devaney will celebrate a Healing Mass on Wednesday, March11th next in Frenchpark Church at 7 p.m. followed afterwards by refreshments in the Community Hall.

Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, February 21st last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 2, 3, 17 and 18. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Elaine Callaghan, Finola Cooney, Breda Durr, Angela Fannon and Margaret Leydon. The next draw (jackpot €6,800) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, February 28th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

BOOK LAUNCH 

 A new book, entitled Roscommon Holy Wells Customs, Cures and Sacred Waters, will be launched this evening (Tuesday, February 24th) by author Tamlyn McHugh in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk from 7.30 p.m.. Come meet the author at the centre for the official launch by Dr. Marion Dowd MIAI, FSA. Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Liam Callaghan will also attend the launch. The event is supported by the County Roscommon Historical & Archaeological Society & County Roscommon Heritage Forum. Light refreshments served on the night. The project is funded by The Heritage Council under Ceangal, the Local Authority Heritage Programme, delivered in partnership between the Heritage Council and Local Government Ireland.

AWARD ACCOLADE 

The management and staff of the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre and indeed the entire community of Tulsk would like to congratulate Horslips, one of Ireland’s most iconic music groups who were recently awarded the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Classic Irish Album for the classic album, The Táin. The album, based on The Cattle Raid of Cooley, was released in 1973 and remains extremely popular. The band continue to perform such hits as Dearg Doom and Trouble. In 2019, the mark the 20th anniversary of the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, band members Jim Lockhart and Barry Devlin visited the centre and performed a memorable acoustic version of ‘Trouble’ to the delight of those present on the night. The speaker will be Marie Conroy from Mahon, Sweeney Solicitors, Roscommon. Everyone is welcome to attend - there will be a raffle and cup of tea afterwards.

SENIOR SCÓR 

The county finals of senior Scór take place in Kilmurry Hall on Saturday, March 14th. Competitions include figure dancing, solo recitation/storytelling, singing, question time, ballad group, novelty act, instrumental music, set dancing. CAMOGIE CLUB 

Best wishes to all the coaches supervising Tulsk camogie teams ahead of what is sure to be a very busy year. The club’s coaching structures for the year are as follows – training the U-6’s and U-8’s are Hilda Conroy, Siobhan Monaghan, Katie Flanagan and Joanne Mannion. The club’s U-10’s will be coached by Rachel Feeney, Tara Keogh and Clodagh Hanly while the club’s U-14’s will be served by Ciaran Flynn, Pauline Flynn and Elaine Hannon. Stepping up to the mark to coach the club’s U-16’s are Marty Beirne, Rachel Hanly and Vilma Paciene while the club’s minors and junior teams will be coached by Karina Jones, Hilda Conroy and Darena Hanly. Well done to all concerned for giving of their time and energy and the very best of luck is extended to all the club’s teams.

COMMUNITY GAMES 

Entries are now being taken for local competitors to compete in a wide range of events, representing Tulsk Community Games this year ahead of a series of county events taking place on Thursday, March 26th from 6 p.m. in Castlerea Community School. Among the events are the 5km marathon for O-14 and U-16 boys and girls; the cross-country 1,200m for O-11 and U-13 boys, girls and mixed squads; cycling on grass for O-12 and U-14 boys and girls; cycling on grass for O-10’s and U-12 boys and girls; cross-country mixed relays for O-10 and U-12 boys and girls and mixed distance relays, also cross-country for O-12’s and U-14’s boys and girls. Similarly, expressions of interest are now being taken for swimming events for this year, namely backstroke, freestyle and butterfly events in a range of various age categories.
