The Lough Key Triathlon takes place on Sunday, August 30th in the surroundings of Lough Key Forest & Activity Park starting at 10.30 a.m. The event includes swim – 750m or 200m in Lough Key; bike – 23km scenic cycle around the lake; run – 5km forest trail through Lough Key Forest Park. Relay teams of 2 or 3 are also welcome, making it a fantastic opportunity to take part with friends, family, or colleagues. Registration is now open through www.triathlonireland.com.
Active Age returns to the Family Resource Centre, at 2 p.m. on September 10th, after the summer break. Over 55s come and see what the group does and maybe join in.
Mass will be celebrated in Kileenan Graveyard on Saturday, September 5th at 3 p.m.. There will be a collection at the gate for the ongoing maintenance of both graveyards. Mass will be celebrated in Ardcarne Graveyard on Sunday, September 6th at 12 Noon. There will be a collection at the gate towards the cost of lighting Ardcarne Church and Graveyard. The Living Well Programme helps people with a long term health condition and helps improve their overall wellbeing. Anyone with any chronic illness can benefit from these workshops. A new programme will start in Boyle on Wednesday, September 9th, from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m., continuing for six weeks. Places are free and HSE funded but advance registration is required. Boyle Family Resource Centre will celebrate Roscommon Pride on Thursday, August 27th from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.. Come along for a cuppa, a chat, some Pride crafts and a kids’ corner, and the chance to meet old friends and make new ones. Everyone is welcome. Commiserations to the Boyle Celtic men's master’s team who were defeated in the RDFL masters cup final. In what was an eventful first half, Roscommon United found the back of the Celtic net twice as well as being reduced to 10 players following a straight red card. Celtic, to their credit, never gave in but just couldn't breach the opposition defence. With Celtic pushed forward, Roscommon capitalised and scored their third goal to seal the silverware. Congratulations to Roscommon United on their victory. Wishing Boyle Celtic player Dermot Beggan a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained in the game. Join Lisa’s community art workshop to paint 3D paper hot-air balloons for a grand display in SuperValu foyer to celebrate the upcoming Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships! People of all ages are welcome to drop in, create art together, and help build a bright, soaring community installation. Workshop is open to all ages and skill levels. It will be held downstairs in the Boyle Family Resource Centre on Friday, August 28th from 2.30 - 4.30 p.m.. Free admission and all supplies provided. This a drop-in event, and no booking required. See your finished balloon hang in the supermarket foyer for the championships.
The death took place on Thursday, August 20th of Mrs Helen Noone (née Downes) "St. Anthony’s" Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon, and formerly Boyle, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Pre-deceased by her parents Mary Kate and James, brothers Eamon, Padraig and Kevin, Helen is deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving and devoted family, husband, Michael, daughters, Patricia, Caroline, Carmel and Yvonne, son-in-law, Paul Rynn (Gowel), adored grandchildren, Aisling, Shane, Aaron and Jamie, brother, Seamus (UK), sisters-in-law, Ann, Mary and Patricia, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Following Mass of Christian Burial on Sunday in St. Mary’s Church she was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The death took place last week at Letterkenny University Hospital of Mrs Rosaleen Craig, Baylett, Inch Island, County Donegal and formerly Cootehall, and Ballinamore. Predeceased by her loving husband James, sisters Margaret, Monica and her twin sister Breege and brothers Sean and Frankie. Deeply mourned and will be forever missed by her loving daughters, Gabrielle, Ann and Helen, her loving sister, Dympna, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends and neighbours. Following Requiem Mass on Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Inch Island interment in the adjoining graveyard.
