Local Notes: Annual Social Inclusion Outing, Appointment of New Parish Priest, Defibrillator

LOCAL NEW APPOINTMENT FOR LOCAL PP 

Frenchpark parish priest Fr. Micheál Donnelly has informed all parishioners that he is being transferred, from Tuesday, June 30th next, to the parish of Ahascragh/Caltra at the request of Bishop Kevin Doran. He has served as parish priest of Frenchpark, Ballinagare, Fairymount & Tibohine for nearly eleven years. Fr. Micheal has thanked all of his parishioners for their kindness, support and commitment in making his job easier in running the daily activities within the parish and in helping to keep all churches afloat.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 

The Sacrament of First Holy Communion will take place in Frenchpark at 10.30 a.m. and Fairymount Church at 1 p.m. on this Saturday (16th). Masses will be held at 7 p.m in Tibohine on Tuesday (12th), Frenchpark at 7 p.m. on Thursday (14th), Ballinagare at 7 p.m. and Frenchpark at 8 p.m. on Friday (15th), Tibohine at 7 p.m. and Ballinagare at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday (16th) and Frenchpark at 10 a.m. and Fairymount at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, May 17th.

SPCA COLLECTION 

Roscommon SPCA will hold its annual church gate collection at the Church of The Sacred Heart, Ballinagare on Saturday, May 16th. Roscommon SPCA is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly towards animal welfare in the county. All support appreciated.

LATE MRS EVELYN MAHON 

The death occurred peacefully of Mrs Evelyn Mahon (née Bruen), Castlerea Road, Frenchpark and late of Lissergool Tibohine on Friday, May 8th last at the Roscommon Hospice. Predeceased by her parents, John and Ellen, sister Una Kilkenny and her husbands Bernard Quinn and Peter Mahon, Evelyn will be sadly missed and remembered by her loving family, her son, Patrick, nephew, nieces, stepsons, stepdaughters, the extended Quinn and Mahon families, relatives, neighbours and many friends. Her remains will be removed from her home to St. Asicus Church, Frenchpark on this Tuesday (today) arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Ballinameen Cemetery.

Pray for the repose of the souls of Mr Frank Grehan, Kilmovee, County Mayo; Mr Gary Lydon, Leitrim & Cootehall; Mr Rupert de Lacy Staunton, Clonalis, Castlerea; Mr Ollie Callaghan, Ratoath, County Meath & Rathmoyle, Kilmurry and Mr Derek O’Kelly, Salthill, Kiltimagh, and Castlerea. May they rest in peace.

LOTTO 

Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, May 9th last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 9, 11, 26 and 32. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Mary Carrol, Barry Cooney, Siobhan/Emmet Cooney and Noreen Harrington. The next draw (jackpot €3,600) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, May 16th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

DEFIBRILLATOR 

Ballinagare & Tully Defibrillator Group are delighted to announce that they have recently upgraded the defibrillator at Ballinagare Church which will be installed over the coming days. The group also wishes to upgrade the defibrillator in Tully. All donations will be gladly accepted by either James Finnerty or Eleanor Caulfield.

CHAIR YOGA 

Chair yoga takes place in Fairymount Hall for the month of May. Classes continues on this Wednesday (13th) from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Suitable for everyone. Cost is €12 for pay-as- you-go. For further information or to book a space. contact Suzie on 083-8234259.

CARDIAC FIRST RESPONSE COURSE 

A Cardiac First Response course will be held at The Cornerstone, in Frenchpark on Wednesday, May 27th next at 9.30 a.m.. The course is four hours and free, but any donation would be welcome. Places are limited. Contact 094-9870340 if interested.

BAKE SALE & RAFFLE APPRECIATION 

TY students Lenten ambassadors would dearly like to acknowledge everyone's kindness, generosity and support in making a recent bake sale and raffle such a success. Thanks to everyone who assisted in preparing for the event, setting up prior/on the day, made donations either financial or dropping of such beautiful bakes for the sale/the beautiful goodies for the raffle (five amazing Easter hampers), to all who advertised our event and to the management of Tulsk N. for the use of their gym to hold this event. The group raised an outstanding amount of €1998.31 which was way beyond expectations. "Thank you" dearly for all your support. It is so much appreciated.

JAYDEN SETS THE STANDARD 

Huge Congratulations to Jayden Jennings and the Roscommon minors who set the scene for a wonderful weekend for Roscommon football by winning 3-12 to 1-17 against Galway in the Connacht Minor Football Championship in Tuam. This was a wonderful success and a great achievement for Jayden in front of his enormously proud family and friends. The congratulations of the community are extended to Jayden and his family on a fantastic achievement, the first of many, one hopes!

LATE MR OLLIE CALLAGHAN 

The sympathies of local residents are extended to the family and friends of the late Ollie Callaghan, late of Curragha Road, Ratoath, County Meath and formerly of Rathmoyle, Tulsk, whose death occurred in the care of staff at the Mater Hospital, Dublin. The deceased was a member of a highly esteemed family in the local community and in his younger days, played underage football for Tulsk before moving to County Meath. Predeceased by his wife, Nuala, parents, Tom and Katie, brother, Gerry and son Dáire, the late Ollie is survived by his daughters, Tara and Katie, son-in-law, Aran, daughter in law Nicky, grandson, Daithí, brother Liam, sisters Aileen and Eithne, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The sympathies of the entire local community are extended to the family and friends of the deceased.

CRHAS LECTURE 

 The next meeting of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society will take place this evening (Tuesday, May 12th) in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre from 8 p.m.. All members are invited to attend the meeting – new members are welcome.

CAMOGIE CLUB 

Well done to club representatives Ella McDonnell and Amy Hannon who are members of the Roscommon U-15 county development squad who recently played Carlow in Mulhern Park, Fuerty.

LATE MR BRENDAN MULLANEY 

There was a sense of shock in the community at the weekend when news emerged of the passing of Mr Brendan Mullaney, Kilbride, Swinford. The deceased was husband of Regina (née Carley), who was a valued member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Football club in Tulsk for many years. Regina, who is a member of An Garda Siochana, is the daughter of the late Paddy and Anges Carley of Grange, Fourmilehouse. St Mary’s Ladies Football Club has offered condolences to the family of Regina, the couple’s children Rachel, Sarah, Katie, Shane and David, and to all of the late Brendan Mullaney's family in their time of great loss.

CLOONEYQUIN NS 

Clooneyquin National School Killina recently held its Percy French scholarship exams. Congratulations to their winner, Lorna Keaveney and runner up Áine O'Connor. A presentation will be made at the end of the school year. Congratulations are also extended to all the Fifth and Sixth classes for sitting the exam.

RECENT DEATHS 

Prayers were recited at weekend masses for the late Fiona Miley, a niece of Gerry Miley, of Carnaskeagh, Tulsk and to Eileen Donnellan of Rusheen on the passing of her brother-in-law, John Joe Cox of Strokestown. Sympathies are also extended to Bernard Redmond, Castleplunkett on the passing of his mother, Betty Redmond of Dublin. The sympathies of the local community are extended to the family and friends of the deceased.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION 

The Elphin S.O.S. group (Support to Overcome Suicide) group will hold a church gate collections outside local masses this weekend, May 16th and 17th. The support of local residents would be greatly appreciated.

ANNUAL SOCIAL INCLUSION OUTING 

The annual Social Inclusion GAA outing takes place on Saturday, July 4th with visits to Dan O’Hara’s Cottage in Clifden and Glengowla Mines in Oughterard. The cost of the trip is €95 which is all inclusive of bus tour, tickets, breakfast and evening meal.
