Members of the Heritage Society are currently in the middle of the busiest part of the year, as they prepare for the Open Day at Templetogher Heritage Area on Sunday, September 7th. The group meets up at Templetogher on Thursday to continue with the preparations. There will be regular get-togethers there over the coming weeks. On the day the mechanism of the corn mill will be back in full working order, and the greatly enhanced exhibition room and new look, spacious kitchen will be opened. It is very fitting that these major improvements should be taking place at this time, as the year 2025 marks 25 years since Williamstown Heritage Society was founded.

The Heritage Society is collecting memorial cards, which have been issued for decades to commemorate the death of a loved one. They are a huge part of heritage, and, not surprisingly, they have changed massively in design over the years. While people like to retain these reminders of deceased loved ones, it is also true that there are several of these cards, particularly the older black and white ones, lying about, which people might be happy to donate. The group would like to compile albums of them for display in the Templetogher Exhibition Room. Having them available for viewing would mean that the memory of deceased loved ones would actually be strengthened. All such cards would be welcomed by any member of the Heritage Society.
The second gathering of the local Ciorcal Cómhrá group was held in the SNJ Cafe on Sunday morning. Again, a group of enthusiasts anxious to improve their cúpla focal had a very positive session. Following the break for August, the next gathering will be held on the last Sunday in September. Más mian leat feabhas a chur ar do chuid Gaeilge agus buaileadh le cairde nua, tar go dtí an chéad cruinniú eile.
