Local Notes: Coffee Morning, Pregnancy Yoga, Buggy Buddies

COFFEE MORNING 

A coffee morning in aid of Parkinson's Roscommon will be held at Roscommon Golf Clubhouse on Friday, April 10th between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.. The special guest speaker on the day will be Dr Martin Daly TD. Everyone is welcome. Please support if you can.

CASTLECOOTE COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWS 

A big thank you to Roscommon County Council and Athlone Municipal District for the grant funding toward the new doors at Castlecoote Community Centre. This support makes a huge difference in maintaining the building and keeping it secure and energy efficient.

Pilates continues with Bonnie every Tuesday, 7.30-8.15 p.m. All ages and abilities welcome.

Line dancing takes place every Friday 6.30-8 p.m. with Christopher.

Cash for Clobber continues with proceeds going to the Community Centre. Bags can be dropped into outdoor toilet with the green door if the centre is closed.

The AGM of St Ciaran’s Community Centre will be on Sunday, April 19th at 7 p.m..

Re-turn Deposit Return Scheme: The community is encouraged to donate their empty plastic bottles and cans (which are part of the Re-turn Deposit Return Scheme) into the specialised, marked orange bin which is located at Castlecoote Stores. This initiative allows residents to dispose of their recyclable bottles and cans while simultaneously contributing to the local community's fundraising efforts. All funds generated from returning these containers are used to support our local Castlecoote Community Centre.

CASTLECOOTE TIDY TOWNS 

Congratulations to all involved in Castlecoote Tidy Towns who received three awards for all their hard work. Continued success to all and a special well done to the young volunteers in winning the regional prize in the Young Persons in Tidy Towns category.

BOWEL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 

Roscommon Sports Partnership is supporting the HSE campaign for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month this April. The HSE says around 2,600 people are diagnosed each year. BowelScreen offers free bowel screening to people aged 57 to 71 living in Ireland. If eligible, you can register and request your free home screening kit online.  Roscommon Harriers 5km Series for 2026 is underway with the next 5km on Friday, April 10th. Race starts 7.30 p.m., pick up numbers from 6.30 p.m. at Hannon’s Hotel.

AGE FRIENDLY EASTER EVENT 

 An Age Friendly Easter event will be held in Kilbride Community Centre (F42 N277) on this Wednesday, April 8th from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Event includes music, storytelling, chair yoga, and the launch of the Roscommon Age Friendly Directory. Hot food and refreshments will also be provided. A fun-filled day of music, stories, and community connection awaits. This event is free and open to everyone, so come along and enjoy a great day out. BUGGY BUDDIES 

The Buggy Buddies programme is back for four weeks starting Tuesday, April 14th, 11 a.m.-12 noon at the Community Sports Park. Buggy Buddies is a physical activity programme for mothers and others to exercise in a safe environment with their babies. The sessions will include a mix of cardio and strength exercises aimed at improving overall fitness. This includes walking/light jogging and a variety of full-body exercises. It is also a fantastic way to get out, meet other parents and build a supportive community.

CHANGING GEARS COURSE 

 Changing Gears is a 5-session course, which supports people in dealing with change and life transitions (e.g. getting the most from retirement/handling bereavement/ill health/becoming a carer, or having more time for yourself ) in mid to later life. It helps participants to identify what has served them well up to now in life, the successes and challenges they have experienced, what supports they have in place and what they may need to introduce for their next stage of life. Dates ate Thursdays April 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th and May 7th May f 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Gleeson’s Townhouse Market Square, Roscommon.
