Strokestown Parish Church recently received a donation of €1,000 towards the upkeep of the Church. Thank you to the donor for their generosity which is deeply appreciated.
Couples celebrating their Silver, Ruby, Golden, Diamond, Platinum or other wedding anniversaries are invited to attend a Jubilee Mass along with their families and friends on either Sunday, 5th October, 2025, at 2.30 p.m. at Sligo Cathedral or on Sunday, October 19th. at 2.30 p.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Strokestown.

The death took place recently at his home in Valencia, Spain, of Mr Michael Dorcey, husband of Mrs Maire Dorcey (nee Allen) (formerly of Lisroyne, Strokestown). A native of Dalkey, Co Dublin, he was son of the late Mr Owne Dorcey and of the late Mrs Maire Dorcey. He was for a time manager of Slieve Bawn Co-Operative Handcrafts Market in Strokestown. In Valencia, he was heavily involved in its Rugby Club. He was predeceased by his brother,, Donal. The funeral took place at the Tanatorio Municipal, Valencia. He is survived by his wife, sons, Oisin and Liam, daughters, Nessa and Eavan, daughters-in-law, Mariajo and Inma, sons-in-law, Ronan and Thomas, grandchildren, Sean, Mario, Aidan, Nina, Luna and Linus, sisters, Tessa and Mary, brother, Conor, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family an other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
The death took place recently of Mr Vincent Roddy of Cois Mara, Rosslare Strand, Co Wexford, husband of the late Mrs Susan Roddy. A native of Co. Roscommon, he was brother of the late Mrs Shiela Fahy (Vesnoy, Strokestown). He was predeceased by his children, Vincent, Martin and Desmond. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St,. Brigid's Church Rosslare Strand, and the interment followed in the New Cemetery, Tagoat. He is survived by his children, Kevin and Marie, brother, Brendan, sisters, Theresa and Antoinette, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law, Peter, daughter-in-law, Fran, nephews, nieces, extended family and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

CAIT Roscomáin are running an Internet Safety Course, specifically designed for parents and teachers who want to better understand how to protect children in the digital world. This course offers practical tools, up-to-date information, and expert guidance to help you; recognize online risks and warning signs, set healthy boundaries for screen time and device use, guide children through issues like cyberbullying, privacy, and social media and stay informed about apps, games, and platforms children are using. Initially we will run a 2-hour overview with the option to sign up to a more in-depth, 6-week course for further information and training. The overview sessions are planned for the following dates: Monday 25th of August, 7 p.m., Tuesday 9th September, 7 p.m. and Tuesday, September 23rd, 7 p.m.. Ardcarne Community Games: Huge congratulations to Roisin Cummins on competing in the Cairn National Finals in Carlow on Saturday last. Roisin competed in the Girls U16 100m Sprint. Roisin ran a fantastic heat finishing in 5th place to earn herself a well earned place in the Semi-Finals. Roisin took to the track for the Semi-Final and although ran a brilliant race Roisin was unlucky not to qualify for the Finals after a very tight Semi-Final. Everything is falling into place for our Annual Open Day at Templetogher Heritage Area on Sunday week, September 7th. As 2025 marks the 25th Anniversary of the founding of Williamstown Heritage Society, we will have a number of additional features in place for the occasion. Visitors will be pleasantly surprised when they see our new look Exhibition Room, our revamped kitchen, our much enhanced Memorial Garden and our reorganised Machinery Room. Perhaps the most special feature of all will be to see and hear the Mechanism of the Corn Mill back in full working order for the first time in years. The Open Day on September 7th runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the main ceremony taking place at 2.30 p.m.. There will be complimentary light refreshments available and ample parking space also. In addition to the above features, all visitors can feel free to explore the Miller’s Cottage, browse through the vast array of exhibits and photographs in the Exhibition Room and watch the continuous slideshow of heritage matters. We extend our sympathy to Louis and The Gunning family, Derryvode on the death of Louis’ nephew, David Walters, Tuam. In another of our Heritage projects, everything is coming together nicely with our preparations for the Launch of the Michael McGovern biography in Williamstown on Saturday, October 25. Excitement continues to build for the Launch, both in Ireland and in the US, with a number of people having confirmed their intention to travel from America over for the event.
