Local Notes: Fundraising concert for Clooneyquin NS, Irish language tour and quiz night

The death occurred peacefully of Mr Henry Crean, Moyne, Fairymount on Tuesday, February 18th last at The Roscommon Hospice. In his eightieth year, he was pre-deceased by his father, Andrew, mother, Cassie and his sister, Phil (Finn) in 2024. Henry is survived by his loving family, his wife, Catherine; sons, Henry, James and Declan and daughter, Jacqueline (Lally); son-in-law, Patrick; Henry’s partner, Kerri Ann; grandchildren, sister, Maureen (Cafferky); brothers-in-law, Tommy and Gerald; sister-in-law, Brenda, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. His remains were removed from The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Fairymount on Thursday evening last. Following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by the local clergy on Friday, February 21st last the funeral proceeded to Fairymount Old Cemetery.
The peaceful death took place of Miss Nora Finnerty, Manchester and formerly of Castlecole, Ballinagare on Sunday, February 2nd last. In her 100th year, Nora will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her many nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. Her remains will be removed from the Sharkey Funeral Home, Frenchpark to The Church of the Sacred Heart, Ballinagare on this Wednesday evening (tomorrow) at 6.30 p.m. arriving for 7 p.m.. Following Requiem Mass on Thursday, February 27th at 11am, Nora will be laid rest in Tibohine New Cemetery.
Mr Michael Earley, The Fairgreen, Frenchpark and Granard, County Longford passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21st last at Oakwood Nursing Home in Ballaghaderreen. In his 8t7th year, Michael was predeceased by his brothers, James and Tommy. He is deeply regretted by his loving family, his wife, Celia; daughters Mary, Karen, Eileen and Christine; son, Sean; brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and friends. His remains were removed from the Sharkey Funeral Home to St. Beithin’s Church, Tibohine on Monday, February 24th last, followed by committal service at the Lakelands Crematorium in Cavan.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Mr Thomas Flannery, Southpark, Castlerea; Mr Paddy Callanan, Kilcolman Estate, Ballaghaderreen and Mr Chris Cox, Watford, England. May they rest in peace.
Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, February 22nd last. There was no winner of the jackpot. The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 28 and 29. The next draw (jackpot €8,200) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on Saturday, March 1st next. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.
The Parent, Baby & Toddler Group will take place in the Frenchpark & District Childcare Centre every Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 11am.

The creative co-op is having a meetup in the Macra Hall, Tulsk at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 2nd. Clooneyquinn National School’s gala fundraising Concert takes place on Saturday, March 29th. The concert features a great line-up of performers including the Roscommon Men’s Choir, the local Donoghue Brothers and special guests, Cathy Jordan and Sean Regan and of course the children of Clooneyquin National School will also be performing. The Scor Sinsir county finals will take place in Kilmurry Hall on Saturday, March 8th. Competitions include Figure Dancing, Solo Singing, Recitation, Ballad Group, Question Time, Novelty Act, Instrumental Music and Set Dancing. Clooneyquinn National School will have a large orange plastic bottle recycling placed at the gate between the school and Killina Church on Saturday evenings. The school welcomes all donations to the recycling funding initiative from anyone attending Mass who may like to use the facility – thank you.
The March meeting of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society (CRHAS) will take place in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk, on Tuesday, March 11th where a talk will be given on the life of the acclaimed Sharkey sisters, who were leading figures in the struggle for Irish freedom during the War of Independence. All members are invited to attend – new members are always welcome.
The North and West Intermediate Championship fixture between Kilmore and Tulsk fixed for last Saturday in Kilmore was postponed as both teams pitches were unplayable IRISH LANGUAGE CLASSES Irish Language Classes for adults continue in Cruachan Ai (F45HH51) Tulsk on Tuesdays from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m..
