Local Notes: Golf Club's young star player, Gaelscoil open morning, One Town One Voice and new parish pastoral council
At the 61st BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) a BT Social & Behavioural Educator of Excellence Award was presented by Legal Council for BT Therese Gunning to Elizabeth Glancy, Roscommon Community College.
Roscommon Golf Club’s young star player Olivia Costello finished second in the Andalucia Cup in Spain last weekend. Olivia led after the first round when she posted a five under 66 but in more difficult conditions scoring wasn’t as good as the weekend progressed. Rounds of 75 and 74 on Friday and Saturday left Olivia as the joint leader before Sunday’s final round. However Spanish player Nagore Martinez Salcedo coped best on Sunday to card a two under par 69 to finish on level par 284 for the tournament. Olivia had a 74 on Sunday to finish on five over 289. To finish second in such a high-quality tournament with a field of over 100 players bodes well for the rest of 2025 and the club wishes her the very best as the year takes shape over the next few months.
Thomas Higgins was in Chile last week to represent Ireland in the South American Championship, and he finished with an excellent two under par round of 70 but was down the field overall.
