The remains of 87-year-old Roosky farmer Liam Farrell will be reinterred at Cloonmorris Cemetery, Bornacoola on Thursday morning.

The body of 87-year-old Roosky farmer Liam Farrell, exhumed for a forensic post-mortem as part of a Garda cold case investigation into his suspicious death, will be reinterred on Thursday morning, April 21st, at Cloonmorris Cemetery, Bornacoola.

In a published death notice, the Farrell family said that “anyone who wishes to form a Guard of Honour is warmly invited to attend their father’s final ceremony”.

“To all the cherished friends and neighbours of Liam Farrell, Liam will be returning to our community on Thursday morning the 23rd at 10 a.m. to be interred in Cloonmorris Cemetery,” the notice stated.

Family and members of the Garda cold case team will be in attendance for the reinterment.

Mr Farrell’s remains were exhumed on Friday, April 10th, under the auspices of a cold case team investigating the circumstances surrounding his suspicious death at the back door of his home in Roosky village six years ago.

The exhumation was performed by members of the Garda Technical Bureau with the assistance of the relevant funeral undertakers.

Chief State Pathologist, Professor Linda Mulligan, a Senior Environmental Health Officer from the HSE and members of Liam Farrell’s family were also present, including his five children.

A forensic post-mortem has now been carried out on Mr Farrell's remains, the results of which will remain confidential for operational reasons.

Mr Farrell was found bloodied and bruised by family members at the back door of his house on January 12th 2020. His family firmly believes he was assaulted before suffering a heart attack.

Despite a jury recording an open verdict at Liam Farrell’s inquest in September 2024, his family have always believed that foul played was involved in their father’s death.
