Local Notes: Parade Success, Day Centre, Teens Retreat at Knock

Everyone in Elphin knew the sun would come in time for the parade at 5 p.m. and it did to the delight of everyone involved in the 2026 parade. This year's grand marshal was Noel Collins and he fulfilled his role with great dignity and aplomb. It was a joyous community event with huge crowds and great excitement from children and adults alike. Huge congratulations to the organising committee. Winners: 1st, overall winners, Elphin Set Dancers and Comhaltas CCÉ Elphin; 2nd, Tracy Beirne Financial Services; 3rd, Padraig Beirne; 4th, Elphin Mart; 5th, Glancy’s Supermarket; 6th, Gerry Casserly. Most appropriately dressed, in no particular order: Shona Gunning Galvin, Gene Taylor, Eagha O'Connor, Charlie Cunningham, Emma Darcy, Harper Fowler. Best dressed window – Bernie’s Salon. The organisers of the Elphin 8k/5k run/walk in aid of Down Syndrome Roscommon had another successful day on Saturday and would like to thank the stewards for their help. They also want to thank Elphin GAA Healthy Club ladies, and John McDermott of Elphin Fire Station for the warm place to meet. Thanks to local people who made sandwiches and baked treats; to John Glancy for the fruit he provided; Dessie and Sarah Glancy who kept everyone hydrated with water; Michael, Mary and Oliver of Star Trophies, Ballymoe for the beautiful trophies and medals; Kevin Hennessy, The Order Of Malta for organising the lovely Damien and Sean to be there on the day; Cathal Murray the Central Bar for supplying lovely goodies; Magical Moments Rentals for capturing all the lovely memories from the day; Molloy’s Pharmacy for the beautiful hamper and goodie bags they provided; Garda Eamon Flanaghan who came to help out on the day; Superbite Elphin for their generous donation; Mattie Colum for organising traffic cones, a massive thank you to Lorraine Dockery who raised €350, to Deirdre Parnell, Sharon Tansey and everyone else who kept sharing the event and getting it out there, thank you. Lastly to everyone who came out on the day and supported the event thank you so much and to all who donated online, all had a wonderful day.

A mother, baby and toddler group is starting Wednesday, April 15th, 10.30 am to 12.30 p.m. at Elphin Community Centre €3 per day. The group will meet every second Wednesday during term time. For information contact Helena on 0879759076 or Niamh on 0892260223.
Elphin Day Centre has a new meals on wheels van on the road. Thanks to Clar funding the two vans are now covering a greater area. If anyone wishes to avail of the day centre services please ring 0719635566 or 0876803675.
TOWER BAR SESSIONS The Tuesday night traditional music sessions in the Tower Inn Elphin continue with a big welcome for all musicians and listeners.
Tidy Towns volunteers meet every Saturday at 10.30 a.m. at the Day Centre polytunnel. All welcome, even if you can only come now and again for half hour, every little counts.

Bingo every Monday starts at 8 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre. Thank you for your continued support.

Windmill Wheelers Couch to 50 km or 25k in eight weeks starts in April and will run until the Windmill Classic on Sunday, June 7th. Open to complete beginners and returning cyclists. Now is your chance to get fit and enjoy all the benefits of cycling.
The County Roscommon Branch of Multiple Sclerosis Ireland will hold a church gate collection in the parish on the weekend of March 28th/29th. All support appreciated.

All are welcome to attend the Mass of Chrism celebrated by Bishop Kevin Doran on Monday, March 30th at 7 p.m. in Ballaghaderreen Cathedral or Wednesday, April 1st at 7.30 p.m. in Sligo Cathedral. During the Masses Bishop Kevin will bless and consecrate the oils used in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and the Sick and the priests of both dioceses will renew their commitment to their priestly ministry. Refreshments follow for all in St. Nathy's College and the Gillooly Hall respectively.
ACCORD is recruiting volunteers to train as marriage preparation programme facilitators. An information night will be held in the Sligo Park Hotel on Thursday, March 26th at 7 p.m..
