ABBEY PRIMARY SCHOOL’S VIDEO WINS THIRD PRIZE 

Congratulations to the Fifth Class students of Abbey Primary School in Boyle who took third prize with their video on the history of penicillin in ‘The Messy Mistake that Changed the World’ at the recent 11th Annual ReelLIFE SCIENCE Awards at the University of Galway. Their video is a fun of personal and animation in both English and Irish looking at the story and development of penicillin, and how antibiotics were created. More than 400 short science films were entered into the competition created by 2,600 young science enthusiasts in 131 schools and youth groups across the island of Ireland. Winning videos were selected by a panel of guest judges, including science communicator and engineer Dr Niamh Shaw; RTÉJr TV presenter and scientist Mark ‘The Science Guy’ Langtry; and the 2023 BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition winners, Liam Carew and Shane O’Connor. The awards ceremony took place on Sunday, November 12th, as part of Science Week 2023 and the 26th Galway Science and Technology Festival.

BOYLE BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT 

Boyle breastfeeding support group is space where you and your baby or if you are pregnant and thinking about breastfeeding will receive lots of support, a warm welcome and a cuppa. The group meets the last Friday of every month in Boyle Family Resource Centre 0719663000.

FAMILY SUPPORT DROP-IN CLINIC 

The Boyle Family Support Drop-in Clinic is a confidential space for parents/guardians and families to drop in for a listening ear and receive support about issues and concerns that they may have about themselves and/or their children. The drop-in is open Wednesday mornings during primary school term in Boyle Family Resource Centre between 9.30 a.m. and 12 noon. This is an interagency project together with Boyle FRC, Foroige, Tusla & Roscommon Safe link.

FOOD PACKAGES 

If you and/or your family need food, Boyle Family Resource Centre distributes weekly food packages. Please call into the centre to complete a registration form. The centre operates two schemes ESF+ and Food Cloud.

LATE MR PATRICK JOSEPH KILLORAN 

The death occurred on November 14th, peacefully, aged 87, at Sligo University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family of Mr Patrick Joseph (Paddy) Killoran, 7 Hanley Avenue, Boyle. He was predeceased by his brothers, Brendan, Kevin and Tommy; sisters-in-law Imelda and Mary, and his brothers-in-law John, Terence and Pat. Paddy will be very sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, Mary; daughter, Patricia; son-in-law, Padraig; grandchildren, Lisa and Adam; brothers, Jim (Keash), Aidan (Maynooth), Des (Dublin) and John (Carlow) and their wives Annette, Agnes, Maura, Maureen and Tease; and his sister Mary (UK); brothers-in-law, Gerry Tighe and his wife Breege (Cloonloo) and Tom Tighe (Sligo); sisters-in-law, Marie (Boston) and Molly (Cloonloo); nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. Following Mass of the Resurrection in St. Joseph’s Church, Boyle on Friday burial took place in Templeronan New Cemetery.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT 

A Christmas Concert featuring Bernadine Casserly will be held in King House, Boyle on Friday, December 8th at 8 p.m.. Bernadine is an established singer vocally trained through the royal Irish Academy of Music. Bernadine has toured Europe and sang at countless concerts, weddings and events. She will be joined by pianist Anne Kielty and fiddle player David Doocey. This is sure to be a popular concert so book early - Call 087 144 4739 to book - tickets €15.

CHAT AND CUPPA 

Patricia, Agnes and Anne invite the Active Age Community to join them for a chat and a cuppa on Thursday mornings at 11 a.m. in the McGahern Barracks, Cootehall, starting November 23rd.

CARD GAME 

A card game will take place in Drumboylan Community Centre on Thursday, November 30that 8.30 p.m. in aid of the NCBI. Tickets €10, Prizes galore.

BABY/TODDLER GROUP 

A baby and toddler groups meets every Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Knockvicar Community Centre, Cleen Hall, cost is €3 per family. This group is open to all parents, childminders, grandparents of babies and toddlers in the surrounding community. ST MICHAEL’S FUEL DRAW 

The St. Michael’s Super Fuel & Holiday Draw is in full swing now and all club members should have received their allotted cards or will receive them shortly. Cards should be returned by Monday, December 18th. The draw is in Clancy’s Bar, Knockvicar on Friday, December 29th.
