Corrigeenroe native, former Boyle Celtic player and current League of Ireland star with Drogheda United, James Bolger will be the Grand Marshal at this year’s Boyle’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade will commence at 3.30 p.m. Following on from last year’s successful parade, the viewing stand will remain on the Crescent and there will be a DJ playing before and after the parade. The big success of the parade last year was the inclusion of Music Generation and all the local young people who played after the parade. Music will commence at the rear of An Rioga (former Royal Hotel) before the parade with face painting taking place there. After the parade Music Generation will run a concert at St Joseph's Hall where they have a number of different bands/ groups playing a variety of music from rock to traditional Irish music.

A one-day training workshop has been arranged for parents of pupils at Abbey Community College in partnership with the Boyle Family Resource Centre. ACC is most grateful to management and staff for allowing the use of the premises. The workshop is entitled 'Understanding Self Harm ' and will take place on Friday, March 28th from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Family Resource Centre. This training will help participants to develop a knowledge of and understanding of self-harm and the reasons underlying such behaviour. The training aims to reduce the stigma of self-harm, improve individuals and care agencies’ awareness and sensitivities to self-harm issues, and promote effective care services for those who self-harm. Contact the school for further information.

Fifth and Sixth Year Politics students at Abbey Community College had a workshop from S.H.E. on increasing the participation of women and diversity in Local Government. Speakers included Mairead O'Shea - S.H.E., Darragh Kelly from Roscommon County council and Cllr Leah Cull. Students learned about the work of See Her Elected (S.H.E.) and what they do. The workshop also looked at the status quo - numbers of women on Roscommon County Council now and historically as well as the number of female councillors in local authorities throughout Ireland to gain insight on the national picture. The students very much enjoyed hearing about the work of the council and the work of Cllr Leah Cull and her journey into politics. Thank you to Roscommon county council for including ACC in this workshop.

Boyle AC was well represented at the recent Bundoran 10-mile road race. The scenic route along the Wild Atlantic Way coasts of Donegal and Leitrim has its fair share of challenging climbs along with testing weather conditions. Such challenges didn't phase the five runners from Boyle who ran superbly - Pete Higgins, running his debut race for Boyle AC setting a personal best, Denise Flaherty, Caroline O’Grady, Sinead McCafferty, and Sinead Spellman. Congratulations all.
A Tonroe bog meeting will take place on Saturday, March 15th (Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day) on the bog at 12 noon.
