The 209th parkrun was held on Saturday last and it proved to be a very exciting morning in the park. There were 45 participants walking, jogging and running the course with a visiting dog called Gismo. Several parkrun tourists from Pretoria, Manchester, Mullingar, Oranmore, Lough Key, Dublin, and Hillsborough Forest took part. The course record was broken by Evan O’Rourke from Oranmore parkrun in Galway, 16.22. This was a wonderful run from Evan. The first lady was Karen Washington from Lough Key parkrun. A big thanks to the 12 volunteers who ensured that all went smoothly. You can walk jog or run @ parkrun. Dogs welcome but they must be on a short lead. After your 5km you can drop into the cafe and relax over a cuppa and a chat While it is a free 5km timed run or walk, you must register & bring your printed barcode. To register www.parkrun.ie/register parkrun takes place every Saturday in the grounds of Strokestown Park House It starts at 9.30 a.m. but be there for prebriefing at 9.20 a.m..

The death took place recently at his home in Harrow, Middlesex, UK, of Mr Thomas (Tome) Neary. A native of Cloonfree, Strokestown, he was son of the late Mr Edward Neary and of the late Mrs Kathleen Neary (nee Gilleran). News of his sudden passing was heard of with deep regret among his relatives, former neighbours and friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, Morden, Surrey, and was followed by private cremation. He is survived by his wife, Annabellel son, Adrian; sisters, Mrs Margaret Brennan, Mrs Patricia Smith and Mrs Mary Lyng; brothers, James, Eddie, Joe and Eugene; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
The death took place recently at Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, Roosky, of Mr John Colligan, of Dooslatta, Roosky. He was son of the late Mr Stephen Colligan and of the late Mrs Ann Colligan. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs Ann Keogh, and by his brother, Stephen. He was a well-known member of the farming community and also in the building trade. News of his passing in his 95th year was heard of with deep sadness among his relatives, neighbours and friends, especially Pat Neary. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Anne's Church Slatta, and the interment followed in Kilglass Cemetery. He is survived by his sisters, Mrs Eileen Boland (Ballyleague); sister-in-law, Mrs Ursula Colligan (Scramogue); nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, extended family and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
The death took place recently at Roscommon Hospice of Mr Patrick Connolly of Ballyglass, Fourmilehouse. He was son of the late Mr Patrick Connolly and of the late Mrs Mary Connolly (nee Egan), formerly of Ballybeg, Strokestown. He was brother of Mrs Mary Brennan (Cloonfree). He was a prominent member of the farming community. He was also noted for his expertise with machinery of all kinds News of his passing was heard of with deep sorrow among his relatives, neighbours and friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of Sts Eithne and Fidelma, Tulsk, and cremation followed at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan. He is survived by his sisters, Mary, Anne, Nora, Margaret, Helen and Ethna; brothers, Michael and Hugh; brothers-in-law, Micheal, John, John, Andy and Declan; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Margaret; nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
A Kilglass Sick Children's Fund and Mayo Roscommon Hospice charity event is taking place on Saturday, March 8th from 4 – 9 p.m. in Roosky Community Centre. This is a women's (age 16 +) event. Sympathy is extended to Tommy Deehan Slattamore on the death of his sister, Mary Kelly Lisdoonvarna, Clare and formerly of Slattamore who passed away recently. May she rest in peace.
