Huge thanks to Dessie Glancy who kept all supplied in Elphin with water, fuel and essentials despite having no power and to Elphin pharmacy for making sure everyone got their medication. Thanks also to Elphin Community Centre for opening its doors with John Lambert facilitating charging phones etc. and a welcome cup of tea and some social interaction after the long lonely nights. Thanks also to Ronan Gavigan and his wonderful staff in Morris Meats who were operating off a generator. Elphin was without power and network for several days and some are still affected as we write. It is hoped everyone will be back to normal soon. A list of tips for extreme weather events has been compiled by the followers of Elphin-Our Town facebook page and is pinned to the top of the page for future events.
Morris Meats, Elphin and Ronan Gavigan were awarded Best Striploin Steak in Connaught at the Irish Steak Challenge 2025. They were also awarded a Gold award for their ribeye steak and a silver award for their fillet steak. To receive an award in every category entered was the icing on the cake. These awards are a true testament to commitment for quality. Morris Meats pride themselves on locally sourced produce. “The fact that we can slaughter in our own abattoir adds to our ability to control traceability and quality and is no doubt paying off. Thank you to all involved at the event in the Curragh Racecourse last Sunday and of course a huge thank you to all of our loyal customers. Your support is very much appreciated and we will continue to ensure that we are providing quality meat for you and your families,” said Ronan Gavigan.
Ronan Gavigan of Morris Meats, Elphin and his daughter Eleanor helped cheer up Elphin folks following Storm Eowyn with an impromptu barbecue offering steak sandwiches and chicken burgers and very delicious they were too.

Thank you to everyone who attended the monthly singers session in The Tower on the Bank Holiday Sunday. The Tower Bar sessions are again in full swing. Everyone welcome. The sessions take place at 8.30 p.m. each Tuesday.
