ROSCOMMON

WELL-KNOWN ROSCOMMON HOTELIER PASSES AWAY 

The death occurred on Saturday, July 26th (peacefully), in the devoted care of the staff at Drumderrig Nursing Home, Boyle of well-known Roscommon Town hotelier Mr Tom Grealy. Only child of the late Tommy and Mai Grealy, Tom was at the helm of the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon Town for decades and was an integral part of the hospitality scene and business life of the town. Leading the hotel through many different periods of change, his leadership was an integral part of the hotel’s success. A respected and well-liked figure among staff, colleagues and guests alike, he was known for his warm welcome, calm professionalism and unwavering commitment to service. Described as “a gentleman” and a man of grace and consistency, his example set the tone for others around him. He helped build a welcoming and family-centred ethos that has become the hallmark of The Abbey Hotel over the years. His warmth, decency and quiet strength left an indelible impression on all who met him. Dearly loved husband of Anya and cherished father to Tom Jnr., Adrian, MaryClaire and Robert. He will be forever missed by his family, his daughters-in-law, Geraldine and Annemarie, son-in-law, Matt, and his adored grandchildren, Elliot, Carla, Louis, Tommy, Jenny and Lorcan. Dearly remembered by his many friends and by his colleagues and staff at the Abbey Hotel. Removal from his home this morning, Tuesday, at 10.30 a.m. arriving to the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m.. Burial afterwards in St Coman’s Cemetery.

AGRICULTURAL SHOW LAUNCH 

Roscommon Agricultural Show will be officially launched on Thursday, August 7th at 9 p.m.. in Hannon’s Hotel.

SUMMER OUTING TO KYLEMORE ABBEY 

A summer outing to Kylemore Abbey takes place on Tuesday, August 12th. Coach departing from the Sacred Heart Church car park in Roscommon Town at 9 a.m. Inquiries to Tom Beirne 086 3861954. All are welcome.

ACTIVATOR POLE WALKING PROGRAMME 

An activator poles walking programme encourages people to get active through walking while also incorporating strength, balance and mobility exercises. The next programme will be held at the Lisnamult Sport & Activity Hub starting Wednesday, August 6th, 11 a.m. – 12 noon. Cost is €20 for the four-week programme. This programme is suited to a range of fitness levels and abilities. Activator poles will be provided.

LOUGH DERG

ROSCOMMON LIBRARY 

Now is the perfect time to call in to any of the branch libraries to sign up for Summer Stars 2025. Each child will receive a book bag and an activity book full of wonderful puzzles and games. Fill in the reading card and return it to your library to be in with a chance of winning a wonderful hamper full of goodies.

CEMETERY MASSES 

Cemetery Mass will take place in St. Coman’s Cemetery on Saturday, August 16th at 7 p.m..  

DARTS 

The annual Martin Kelly Cup will be played for in the Hollywood Bar on Friday, August 8th at 8.30 p.m.. Names mut be in by 8.30 p.m. and first game is at 9 p.m.. Entry fee, adult, €10, youths, €5. Prize money will be money in- money out plus €200 sponsorship from the Hollywood Bar. Trophies for winner, runner-up, semi-finalists, highest checkout, best lady, and best youth. COMMUNITY RADIO 

Are you interested in working in radio? RosFM is recruiting an outreach and development officer to join the team. While experience in radio is desirable it is not essential as the successful candidate will receive training. The role is 16 hours per week over a 40 week contract. ANNUAL JUMBLE/CAKE SALE

Cemetery Masses takes place (weather permitting) in Kilkerrin Cemetery on Monday, August 4th at 12 noon: Clonberne Cemetery on Saturday, August 9th at 7:30 p.m.. Cemetery maintenance collections will take place at these Masses. Please let people know who may wish to come home for the occasion.

 A vacancy has come available for a part time nurse in the daycare centre, based in Glenamaddy. Experience in care of the elderly desirable.
