Hard luck to the A team who were defeated by St John’s from Sligo in the FAI Junior Cup. The final score was four goals to two. Martin Maloney scored the first goal and his cross led to the second being turned over the goal line by a St John’s defender.
The deadline is fast approaching for articles photos and reports for this year’s edition of the Cloonfad magazine. These should be handed into any member of the committee.
A very enjoyable function in Tarmey’s Tavern on Friday night last was a classic example of community spirit at its very best. With a great crowd in attendance, the members of Williamstown Festival Committee were generously donating various amounts of money from the proceeds of this year's festival to a number of voluntary community organisations. The fact that they were donating a total of €23,000 to 14 local groups, speaks for itself as regards the enormous success of the festival, and the strong civic spirit shown by the committee members in supporting so many other organisations. As the various presentations were made, a representative of each of the organisations involved warmly thanked the Festival Committee members for their generosity. During the event, it was most encouraging to hear how the various community organisations cooperate with each other, share facilities with each other, and support each other’s events. It is a great boost to the community to have such a dynamic, energetic and enthusiastic festival committee, whose members are prepared to put in the hard work, to bring enjoyment to so many and then, in a spirit of great generosity, to be so willing to plough the proceeds back into the other community organisations, all of whom have a distinct and important role. The heart of our small community was beating quietly but very proudly on Friday night. Long may this continue.

The Heritage Society and the local Tidy Towns group have finished the annual calendar. It has gone to print and will be available in a matter of days. The response to the request to various businesses, organisations and individuals to sponsor advertisements in the calendar has been most encouraging. So it looks very much as if the great success of this venture in all previous years is about to be repeated once more.
