Second storm to hit West of Ireland this weekend

The Yellow Rain Warning for County Roscommon was rescinded earlier today.

However, bad weather is expected over the weekend for the West and North West of Ireland.

Met Éireann confirmed to the Herald this evening that its most recent forecasts indicated that Connacht and Ulster no longer meet yellow wind and rain warning thresholds.

“Hence, the warning was updated to only include Munster and Leinster,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier this week, the forecaster issued the warning for the whole of the country, including Roscommon, in advance of Storm Austen.

The weather alert was due to come into effect at 7 pm this evening and remain in place until 10 am tomorrow.

The second named storm of the season, Storm Boelo is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England on Saturday and Sunday.

Met Éireann said: "The north and west of Ireland will experience strong winds, as well as heavy rain in the west."

The second storm is forecast to coincide with high tides, increasing the risk of flooding particularly along the west and northwest coasts.
