Gardaí believe 'wrong house' targeted after five people injured in arson attack
Gardaí believe the “wrong house” was targeted in an overnight arson attack in north Dublin, which has left a woman fighting for her life and a juvenile with serious injuries.
As the Irish Examiner reports, while it is early in the investigation, detectives suspect the botched attack is linked with a violent local feud, driven by personal, rather than gang, motivations.
Gardaí suspect that the front window of a house in Creston Avenue, Finglas, was smashed and that either a pipe bomb or a petrol bomb was thrown in.
Five people have been hospitalised following a suspected arson attack on a house in Finglas, Co Dublin, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of a fire at Creston Avenue at around 12:45 am. The local fire service extinguished the fire.
The five occupants in the house, two women in their 40s and 20s, and three teenagers, two girls and one boy, were brought by ambulance to James Connolly Memorial and Temple Street Children’s hospitals.
The injuries to the woman in her 40s and the teenage boy have been described as serious.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or noticed anything suspicious in the Creston area between midnight and 1:00 am on Wednesday to contact them.
Any persons who may have video footage from the area between those times (including CCTV and dash cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
