Boyle Musical Society will soon be raising the curtain on its 40th anniversary show 'Curtains', which will be staged in November.

But before all that a cast is needed! If you are the sort of person who might be interested in twelve weeks of singing, drama, dancing and great fun the society is calling your name.

A launch night for 'Curtains' is taking place in The Patrick's Well at 8 p.m. on Monday, August 25th and everybody is welcome!

Potential performers and back stage crew are invited to come along and meet the production team, learn about exciting plans for the show and the audition and rehearsal schedule.

Following the launch Dance & Ensemble auditions for everybody is taking place on Wednesday, August 27th in St. Joseph's Hall and on Thursday 28th, there will be private auditions for anybody interested in taking a leading role.

Full rehearsals will begin on Monday, September 1st in St. Joseph's Hall.

This year’s director is Karen Gordon. She first joined BMS in 2016, playing Tracy Turnblad in ‘Hairspray’, and has been an active member ever since.

With over 20 years’ experience on and off stage, Karen has produced and directed for the award-winning Pop-Up Theatre which she founded in 2016, delivering productions ranging from an immersive ‘Sweeney Todd’—the biggest musical ever staged in Sligo, to ‘The Producers’ and ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest’ to name a few. Karen was nominated for an AIMS Award for Best Director for their production of ‘Hairspray’ in 2023.

Her stage credits also include extensive work with the Coolera Dramatic Society, the Everyman Drama Group, and Sligo Musical Society, performing in numerous plays, pantomimes and musicals over the past two decades.

Karen said she is “honoured to follow in the footsteps of the amazing Vivienne Moran for this year’s production, and is excited to work with the talented cast, crew and committee”. She promises to make Viv proud—and to help deliver an unforgettable 40th anniversary show.

Taking on the role of new choreographer, is Eiméar Mulvey who is a dynamic performer and choreographer from Geevagh, Co. Sligo, known for her vibrant presence in the Irish performing arts scene. As the business owner of Bróga Bríomhar Dance School, she has brought energy and precision to stages across the country.

She is also a choreographer at Star Factory Sligo, inspiring young talents in dance and musical theatre. Her passion for the arts was recently showcased in Pop-Up Theatre production of ‘Sweeney Todd’ in Sligo ATU. Whether performing, teaching or choreographing, Eiméar continues to contribute meaningfully to the cultural life of Sligo and beyond.

The society has also announced Anne Kielty as its musical director for ‘Curtains’. Anne has been with Boyle Musical Society since 1986, when she joined as pianist for ‘The Gypsy Baron’. She took on the position of full time musical director for ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ in 1998, a position that she has had since.

She has a wealth of experience in musical theatre and choral work. Recently retired as a music teacher at St. Nathy’s College, Ballaghaderreen, Anne brings her teaching experience and love of music to Boyle Musical Society, where she works tirelessly with soloists and chorus to produce the best vocals and harmonies for the stage.
