ALL-IRELAND CHAMPION WIN FOR BALLAGHADERREEN BOXING CLUB 

Ballaghaderreen Boxing Club is celebrating another major success after Gavin O’Gara was crowned a two-time National Boxing Champion at the National Stadium in Dublin, retaining his Boy 3 79kg title after an extremely tough final against Michael Doherty of Olympic Galway. The Ballagh Boxing Club man came through a hard-fought contest on a 3-2 decision, and the club is immensely proud of Gavin and all its fighters. Commiserations to Hannah Casey and Mohammed Hammad Hussain, who were unlucky to come up short in their bouts.

LOCAL COUNCILLOR CALLS MAKES APPEAL TO BUS ÉIREANN

Councillor Michael Frain has called on Bus Éireann to ensure its drivers are fully aware of the designated stops on the Route 22 service from Ballina to Dublin, following reports that passengers in Ballaghaderreen were left waiting at the stop near the Cathedral. Cllr Frain said he has been contacted by passengers who missed appointments and were left frustrated and confused after buses failed to stop at the proper location or appeared to drive straight through. He said the service is extremely important for local residents and is now seeking clarity from Bus Éireann that its drivers are aware of the location of the new stops and reassurance that the service will return to normal.

GAA 50/50 DRAW

The GAA's 50/50 draw was held on Sunday, April 19th in Spell's Bar Pound St. Winner of the jackpot €535 was John Moriarty, Kilcolman, selling agents, Spell's Bar. Next draw  is on Sunday, April 26th at Old Forge Inn, Cloontia.

ENTERTAINING DRAW

Ballaghaderreen played out an entertaining draw with Davitts inn Ballindine on Saturday evening. The visitors had the assistance of the breeze in first half and led by 1. 13 to 1. 2 at half time  Davitts fought back in the second half and took the lead with goal just going into injury time. Ballaghaderreen responded with a point from Conor Moriarty to earn a deserved draw. Full forward Kuba Callaghan was top performer with a score of 1-13. Ballaghaderreen now play Hollymount Carramore at home on Saturday evening in the next round of the league.

AWARD FOR BALLAGHADEREEN GOLF CLUB 

Ballaghaderreen Golf Club has been awarded the Golf Ireland Women in Golf Charter Gold Standard Award in recognition of the work it has done to create more opportunities, grow the game and make golf more welcoming and inclusive for women and girls. The presentation was made by Mary Hodson of the Connacht Regional Executive Committee and marks a significant milestone for the club. Beginner lessons for ladies are underway on Mondays at 7 p.m. with a PGA coach.

WOMEN’ SHED DAY TRIP 

Ballaghaderreen Women’s Shed will host its annual day trip on Tuesday, June 9th with this year’s outing titled “The Erris Experience.” The trip is open to all guests and not just members, and promises a full day of fun, music, dancing, laughter and good company. The coach will depart from Ballaghaderreen at 8 a.m. and return at approximately 9 p.m. with pick-up and drop-off in the town. All food and light refreshments are included, and full details can be found on the Women's Shed Group socials. The BWSG would be delighted to welcome along anyone interested in joining them.

FILM CLUB 

Anyone with an interest in film and video is invited to attend a meeting about setting up a film club in Ballaghaderreen tonight, Tuesday, April 21st from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at The Shambles, F45 EW98. BALLAGH FC 50/50 

The Ballaghaderreen 50/50 club draw was held on Tuesday, April 14th with Tom Curran winning the €270 jackpot on a ticket sold by Clarke’s. The next draw will take place on this Tuesday, April 21st at the Community Park. The club thanks everyone for their continued support, with tickets available in outlets throughout the town and online at Clubforce.com, while annual tickets are also available for €90.

COMMUNITY GAMES 

Ballaghaderreen Community Games will hold its local Athletics Day on Sunday, April 26th starting at 10 a.m. in Ballaghaderreen Community Park. It promises to be a great local occasion for young athletes and families, with the event forming part of the Cairn Community Games programme in the town.

ARTS FESTIVAL YEAR 4 IS COMING 

The dates for Year 4 of the Ballaghaderreen Arts Festival have been announced as August 1st to 9th. Further details on acts and ticket information will be released at a later stage, and updates will be shared on the festival page.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP 

The Active Retirement group continues to meet in The Ozanam Centre from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. The next gathering is on Wednesday, August 17th and New members are welcome.

KNITTING CLUB 

The Knitting Club meets in The Shambles every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. New members are welcome.

LOUGHGLYNN/LISACUL/GORTHAGANNY 

ACTIVATOR POLES PROGRAMME 

A new four-week activator poles programme will get underway at Loughglynn Community Centre on Thursday, April 23rd at 7 p.m.. This is open to men and women. Benefits of activator poles include: improved balance and stability; better posture and walking technique; increased upper body engagement; reduced pressure on hips, knees and joints; a great way to stay active and social. All welcome.

SPCA COLLECTION 

The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold a church gate collection at the Church of Christ The King on Sunday, April 26th. Roscommon SPCA is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly towards animal welfare in the county.
