Local Notes: Kilteevan Tidy Towns Spring Clean, Dinner4U, Buggy Buddies

LAUNCH OF ROSCOMMON PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS AND FAMILY FUN DAY 

Roscommon Ploughing Championships and family fun day launch night is scheduled to take place in the venue kindly provided by Dalton's Bar, Fuerty on Thursday, April 23rd from 8.30 p.m.. Everyone is welcome to attend. Get ready for a fantastic day out for all the family at the Hanly Family Farm, Fuerty on Sunday, May 3rd - one of the highlights of the local calendar — a celebration of farming, community, and great entertainment. This is more than just an event — it is a chance to support local, meet neighbours, and enjoy a brilliant community atmosphere in the heart of Fuerty.

ROSCOMMON TOWN ICA GUILD 

The AGM of Roscommon Town ICA Guild will take place on this Tuesday, April 14th at 7.30 p.m. in Vita House (upstairs). Looking forward to seeing members there, reviewing the past year and enjoying a cuppa.

KILTEEVAN TIDY TOWNS SPRING CLEAN 

Kilteevan Tidy Towns/An Taisce Spring Clean is taking place on Saturday April 18th. Everyone is invited to come together for a day of positive action to foster community spirit and contribute to a healthier environment for the community. Gather at the Community Centre at 10 a.m. High visibility jackets and bags will be provided. Please bring your own gloves.

NEW VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR KILTEEVAN TIDY TOWNS 

Thanks to a small number of dedicated community stalwarts, Kilteevan Tidy Towns is now in its 11th year. This valuable initiative has placed Kilteevan firmly on the map. In order to continue, the group now needs more people in the community to lend a hand. Opportunities are flexible ranging from weekly clean ups, adopting a road or a flower bed, pollinator friendly planting, biodiversity initiatives, peatland restoration, natural heritage, climate change initiatives, sustainable development initiatives. Young people with project ideas and suggestions are most welcome too. This is an open inclusive group. You can opt for just one job suited to your skills and ability, to do in your own time. Drop in to the Tidy Towns Shed on Tuesday, April 21st at 7p.m. for a chat. A major Fáilte Romhat awaits you.

 Roscommon SPCA thanks everyone who supported the church gate collection at the Sacred heart Church, Roscommon Town over the Easter weekend. The collection realised €1,173.91 all of which will now go directly to helping sick and injured animals across County Roscommon. RSPCA thanks the wonderful volunteers for braving the cold wind, rain and hail stones with smiles and determination.

CHAIR YOGA 

Inclusive chair yoga for brain health – at Roscommon Town Library on April 15th and 22nd – 11 a.m. to 12 noon. These sessions welcome all who wish to become more relaxed and confident with gentle chair-based movement. There will be refreshments after each session offering a chance to chat and meet others taking part in the session. The sessions will be led by Yin yoga instructor and chartered psychologist, Dr Marianne Fallon. Booking is required as places are limited.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION 

On Wednesday April 15th from 10 a.m.-12 noon the South Roscommon Family Resource Centre (F42N971) is holding a community consultation morning. Please come along and have your voice included on various topics and how they affect the community and families. Contact 089 4334135 for queries.

PRINCESSES V SUPERHEROES STORYTIME 

 Storytime at Roscommon Town Library on April 18th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. A special storytime followed by a design your own mask/tiara activity. Come dressed as your favourite character (optional).

ROSCOMMON SAFETY INFORMATION MORNING 

 A safety information morning for ages 55+ will be held on Monday, April 29th in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.. There will be speakers from An Garda Síochána, Roscommon Fire Services, and the RSA to support safety at home and on the road. These meetings allow residents to voice concerns regarding crime, anti-social behaviour, and community safety to help form the new LCSP Community Safety Plan. A county-wide Community Safety Survey is also active to gather resident feedback.

ROSCOMMON HARRIES 5KM SERIES 

Roscommon Harriers 5km Series for 2026 is underway with the next 5km on Friday, April 17th. Race starts 7.30 p.m., pick up numbers from 6.30 p.m. at Hannon’s Hotel.

BUGGY BUDDIES 

The Buggy Buddies programme is back for four weeks starting Tuesday, April 14th, 11 a.m.-12 noon at the Community Sports Park. Buggy Buddies is a physical activity programme for mothers and others to exercise in a safe environment with their babies. The sessions will include a mix of cardio and strength exercises aimed at improving overall fitness. This includes walking/light jogging and a variety of full-body exercises. It is also a fantastic way to get out, meet other parents and build a supportive community.

CHANGING GEARS COURSE 

 Changing Gears is a 5-session course, which supports people in dealing with change and life transitions (e.g. getting the most from retirement/handling bereavement/ill health/becoming a carer, or having more time for yourself ) in mid to later life. It helps participants to identify what has served them well up to now in life, the successes and challenges they have experienced, what supports they have in place and what they may need to introduce for their next stage of life. Dates are Thursdays April 16th, 23rd, and 30th and May 7th 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Gleeson’s Townhouse Market Square, Roscommon.
