Local Notes: Easter Floral Demonstration, Fantasy Football, Fundraising Concert

EASTER FLORAL DEMONSTRATION 

An Easter floral demonstration by professional florist Angela East will be held in Fairymount Hall on Friday, March 27th. Doors open 7.30 p.m.. The arrangements Angela makes on the night, and Easter goodies will be raffled. Come along, sit back, and enjoy the evening. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Admission €10 proceeds in aid of Fairymount Hall.

EASTER CAMP 

Active Sparks Easter Camp will be held in Tibohine Community Centre from March 30th to April 2nd next. Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Wednesday & Thursday from 2.30 p.m. – 6 p.m.. Ages four to twelve. Cost €60 per child. Loads of fun activities from badminton, volleyball, basketball, board games, baking, arts & crafts, face painting, table tennis, céili, dance and disco, indoor soccer and lots more. BINGO NIGHT 

Bingo will take place on Good Friday, April 3rd next in Tibohine Community Centre. Doors open at 7.15 p.m.. Eyes down at 8 p.m.. All proceeds in aid of Tibohine Community Centre. Cash prizes and raffle on the night, €1000 jackpot – guaranteed jackpot winner. Come along, you never know your luck.

LATE MR DAVID BELL 

The death occurred peacefully of Mr David Bell, Hermitage, Ballinagare on Monday, March 16th last at Sligo University Hospital. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his devoted partner, Ann; his loving daughters, Clare and Debbie; grandchildren, Odhran, Cara, Charlotte, Jack, Georgie and Kian; sons-in-law, Diarmaid and Chris; the Lavin family, and his wider circle of family and friends. His remains were removed to Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan on Friday, March 20th last, following repose at The Gibbons Funeral Home in Ballinagare.

Masses will be held in Tibohine at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (24th), in Frenchpark at 7 p.m. on Thursday (26th), Ballinagare at 7 p.m. on Friday (27th), Tibohine at 6.30 p.m. and Ballinagare at 8 p.m. on Saturday (28th) and in Frenchpark at 10 a.m. an Fairymount at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday (29th). Stations of the Cross will take place in Fairymount Church on Monday, March 30th next at 7 p.m..

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION 

The annual church gate collection in aid of the County Roscommon branch of Multiple Sclerosis, Ireland will take place this weekend, Saturday (28th) and Sunday, March 29th. All donations gratefully accepted.

WEB DEVELOPMENT COURSE 

 A web development course for beginners commences on Tuesday, April 14th next at 7 p.m. at The Cornerstone in Frenchpark. The course is free. Places are limited and anticipated to fill up fast.  Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, March 21stlast. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 9, 16, 19 and 26. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Joseph Goulty, Angelina O’Neill, Mairead Philips, Sarah Philips and Pat Roddy. The next draw (jackpot €7,200) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, March 28th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

TULSK 

TULSK COMMUNITY PARK CONSULTATION EVENING 

All local residents are warmly invited to attend a public drop-in session for the proposed new Tulsk Community Park. The session will take place in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on this Wednesday, March 25th. Following a workshop session last year, consultants Outscape, prepared a draft plan for the proposed new park, beside Tulsk GAA cCub’s ground. Members of the local community are encouraged to view the emerging design, see how feedback to date has informed the proposals, learn about the ideas being explored, share their thoughts as well as speak to the design team who will be present on the night. The project is being carried out on behalf of Tulsk Action Group CLG in partnership with Tulsk GAA Club, supported by the EU Leader Programme.

GERRY GALVIN POOL TOURNAMENT 

The final of the Gerry Galvin Pool Tournament takes place on Friday, April 3rd (Good Friday) at 9.30 p.m. in Dec’s Bar, Castleplunkett. In that decider, Callum Hanly will play Ryan Larkin. In the semi-finals, Callum Hanly defeated Jimmy Donoghue by seven games to six. It was a similar scoreline in the other semi-final Ryan Larkin edged out Chris Courtney. On the basis of matches to date, the final promises to be a thrilling encounter. Well done to the organisers of the tournament and all the participating players for their efforts to date.

LATE MRS PAULINE GARVEY 

Residents extend their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the late Mrs Pauline Garvey (née Quigley), late of Church Street, Glenamaddy and formerly Tulsk. The deceased passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the care of the staff at St. Francis Nursing Home Kilkerrin. Predeceased by her beloved husband, John L, parents, Annie and James Quigley and brother, PJ. The deceased will be sadly missed by her children Mary, Grace, Norma, and Shane; grandchildren, John, Lucy-Jayne, Beth, Charlie, Daniel and Molly; daughter-in-law, Markèta; sons-in-law Tony and Charlie; sister, Dympna and extended family. The deceased reposed at Divilly’s Funeral Home, Glenamaddy before removal to St. Patrick's Church, Glenamaddy. Mass of the Resurrection was followed by burial in the Creggs Road Cemetery.

BUDDING ENTREPRENEUR 

Well done to Scoil Mhuire student Alan McCormack from Ardikillen who was successful in the innovation category of this year’s county final of the Roscommon Student Enterprise Awards. Alan was recognised for his sheep trough project.

LATE ME TOM CUMMINS 

The sympathies of residents are extended to the family and friends of the late Mr Thomas (Tom) Cummins, Lahausk, Tulsk and Tooting, London who died recently in Tooting. Tom was pre-deceased by his wife, Mai (nee Keaveney) of Clooncarrow. The deceased was a brother of the late Paddy Cummins, an immensely popular individual in the parish who had an unparalleled passion for Gaelic games and justifiably revelled in the exploits of his grandsons on the playing fields. The deceased is also a granduncle of Colm Neary, a member of Roscommon’s inter-county senior football team.

O’CONOR PAINTING 

A Roderic O'Conor painting has just sold at Whyte’s Auction House in Dublin for €245,000. O’Conor was born in Milltown House, Castleplunkett in 1860 and has a world-wide reputation, rivalling that Van Gogh, Cezanne and many others.

MS IRELAND CHURCH GATE COLLECTIONS 

This weekend, March 28th / 29th the County Roscommon branch of Multiple Sclerosis Ireland is holding its annual collection at churches throughout the county and hopes for the public’s usual generous support as this is their main source of income. All donations are gratefully received. The branch is indebted to all the collectors who give freely of their time each year to make this fundraiser possible.

SENIOR SCOR 

Well done to the Tulsk senior Scór team of Mark Kelly, Michael Jones, Joe O’Rourke and Kieran Moylan who were narrowly defeated by Elphin in the senior Scór finals ,which took place in Kilmurry Hall, recently. The team produced a major performance against a very experienced Elphin team.

QUIZ DEFERRED 

Tulsk History Society’s planned quiz night has been deferred to as yet, unconfirmed date. The quiz is an important part of the society’s annual calendar and will take place later in the year.

PRESENTATION NIGHT 

Well done to Tulsk’s O’Gara Cup winning team, the victorious camogie Junior B champions and Division Five winners who were honoured at a special reception in Tulsk at the weekend. The winners were presented with their medals by former Roscommon GAA county board chairman and current central council delegate, Brian Carroll.

RESIDENTS GROUP  AGM

The AGM of the Chestnut Grove Residents Association will take place on Tuesday, March 31st at 8 p.m. in the Macra Hall, Tulsk. All residents are warmly invited to attend. Contributions for the annual programme of grass cutting are now invited and can be paid in advance to committee members or on the night of the meeting. The contribution will remain unchanged from last year.

FUNDRAISING CONCERT 

A special fundraising concert will take place on Sunday, March 29th in Tulsk Macra Hall in support of Tulsk National School. Doors open at 12.30 p.m. with the concert beginning at 1 p.m.. Donations at the door. The event will feature musical performances by local children and young people attending the Blackstick Music School and Tulsk National School. A tuck shop will be available on the day. Members of the local community are warmly invited to attend.
