Last week all were delighted to have a visit from Terry Clarke Coyne from Liverpool with roots in Roscommon. Terry is an amazing flute, whistle and fiddle player and a lovely singer and a genuinely nice human being. He joined in with the tunes and songs and lovely chats. Wishing Terry a very happy trip and please come back to visit. After a very enjoyable summer season of Trád sessions all associated with the Tuesday (8.30 p.m.) night music sessions in the Tower Inn are looking forward to the longer nights and the greater sense of togetherness that goes with the long nights trad music sessions, they are also looking forward to meeting new and old friends whether young or old be they musician or listener all will be made very welcome with a great night assured for all.

The Beatification of the late American Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on Thursday, September 24th in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. rekindled the memories of many people in the parish of Croghan and surrounding areas of his visits to Croghan in 1952 and 1962. The Archbishop's maternal grandparents, John and Mary Fulton were natives of Croghan, and lived in the village until they emigrated to Illinois in 1855. He was born in 1895 and died in 1979. Monsignor Sheen visited Ireland on many occasions and came to Croghan in 1952 for the rededication of St. Michael's Church where large crowds attended to meet and greet the then Auxuliary Bishop of New York. He visited the village again in 1962 when he received a huge welcome by parishioners and visitors. Fulton Sheen was ordained a priest in 1919 and was a noted theologian, bishop, educator, communicator and preacher. A miracle attributed to the late archbishop concerned the miraculous recovery of a baby who was still-born, following its parents prayers to the archbishop. The Beatification ceremony took place last week in St. Louis, attended by thousands of clergy and lay people. A Blessed Fulton Sheen Prayer Group had its first meeting after Mass in Croghan Church on Sunday in thanksgiving for his beatification.
