Thanks to the wonderful volunteers who helped out on the Tidy Towns clean-up day in Elphin.

DAFFODIL DAY 

Daffodil Day will take place in Elphin on Friday, March 20th. The Daffodil Day committee will set up a stall outside Eternal on Main Street, Elphin. Every donation helps make a difference.

LATE MS MOYRA BANKS 

The death has occurred of Moyra Banks, late of Cloonshannagh and Isle of Man. Mass will be offered for the repose of Moyra's soul on Sunday March 22nd at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Kiltrustan. May Moyra rest in peace.

LATE MRS MARGARET FEELY 

The death occurred on March 10th, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, of Mrs Margaret Feely (née Towey), Eden and Kinclare, Elphin, and late of Monasteraden. Predeceased by her parents, John and Bridget, brother, Peter and sisters, Maureen, Phyllis and Teresa. Margaret will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving husband, Colm; daughters, Geraldine, Helen and Michele; much loved grandchildren, Michael, Sean, Abi, Angelina, Amelie, Noah, Jonah and Lily; sons-in-law, Brendan, John and Adrian; sisters-in-law, Carmel and Mary Joe, nephews John, Pat and Peter, relatives, neighbours and friends. Following Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Elphin on Friday Margaret was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

MOTHER, BABY AND TODDLER GROUP

A mother, baby & toddler group will start on Wednesday, April 15th, 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre. The group will meet every second Wednesday during term time. For information contact Helena on 0879759076 or Niamh on 0892260223.

DAY CENTRE 

Elphin Day Centre has a new meals on wheels van on the road. Thanks to Clar funding there are now two vans covering a greater area. If anyone wishes to avail of the wonderful day centre services please ring 0719635566 or 0876803675.

TOWER BAR SESSIONS 

The Tuesday night traditional music sessions in The Tower Inn Elphin continue with a big welcome for all musicians and listeners. Some of the regular musicians did a road trip to Roscommon Town last week for a monthly session in "Feast" and were given a very warm welcome by members of Roscommon Comhaltas and friends.

TIDY TOWNS 

The committee of Elphin Tidy Towns would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who came out to help with the big clean up. The hard working volunteers collected 12 bags of rubbish on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. The group meets every Saturday at 10.30 a.m. at the day centre polytunnel. All welcome, even if you can only come now and again for half hour, every little counts.

FUN RUN/WALK IN AID OF DOWN SYNDROME ROSCOMMON 

Thank you to everyone who took part in the fun walk/run in aid of Dwon Syndrome Roscommon. There is always a great turnout and the committee is very grateful for the big entry and for donations received. Well done to the organising committee.

ROAD CLOSURE 

The road closure on the Blackstick Road L1412 has been extended until April 24th to facilitate the N5 project. Diversions will continue as previously via N5 heading west towards Tulsk, turn north on N61 towards Shankill, turn east on R369 into Elphin.

GAA COACHING CLASSES

 Elphin GAA is hosting the ICGG coaching course at the Elphin Community Centre. This course is a mandatory requirement for all new coaches entering the Gaelic Games Coach Pathway. ABBEYCARTRON NS READING AND RAISING 

Abbeycartron NS needs your help to maintain its sensory garden and help with school excursions and is now undertaking a Read and Raise initiative. Students are going to read as much as they can in return for donations to help them along the way. Check out the sponsorship link on Abbeycartron NS Facebook page. WINDMILL WHEELERS 

Windmill Wheelers are undertaking a couch to 50 km or 25k in eight weeks programme starting in April. After the eight weeks cyclists will take part in the Windmill Classic on Sunday, June 7th. Full training and advice given by members. This is open to complete beginners and returning cyclists. Now is your chance to get fit and enjoy all the benefits of cycling.

MOBILE LIBRARY 

The mobile library visits Elphin every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3.30 p.m..

COMMUNITY GAMES TALENT COMPETITION 

Croghan-Drumlion-Cortober Community Games talent competition will take place in the Patrician Hall, Cortober on Wednesday, March 25th. Registration at 5.15 p.m., competition starts at 5.30 p.m.. Categories include Comedy/Drama (U-13, U-16), Recitation (U-13, U-16), Culture Corner (U-15), Singing - Solo/Group (U-13, U-16), Choir (U-13, U-16), Music - Solo/Group (U-13, U-16), Solo Dance - Modern and Disco U-13, U-16), Group Dance - Modern and Disco (U-13, U-16), Solo Dance - Modern and Disco / Irish Contemporary (U-13, U-16). If your child enjoys singing, dancing, acting, music or performing, this evening provides an opportunity to get on stage, have fun and build confidence. COMMUNITY CHOIR

LATE MRS VERONICA DOWD 

The death occurred on Saturday, March 7th at the Plunkett Home, Boyle, of Mrs Veronica Dowd, Carrick Road, Boyle. Veronica will be sadly missed by her husband, Paddy (formerly of Croghan); her daughters, Lorraine, Martina and Louise; grandchildren, step-grandchildren, sons-in-law, sister Kathleen, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary, sisters, Philomena and Sheila, brothers, Eamonn, Jimmy and Austin. Reposal took place at Mahon and O'Dowd Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 10th. Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Michael's Church, Croghan on Wednesday, March 11th followed by Cremation at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

HISTORIC RUGBY WIN 

Carrick-on-Shannon Community School defeated St. Paul's, Oughterard 24-22 in the Connacht Schools’ Rugby Development Cup Final in Galway last week. Congratulations to all involved in this historic achievement including Shannon Gaels footballers, Conor Kelly, Diarmuid Creighton, Luke Charles and John Boyd.
