The Local Enterprise Office (LEO) is hosting an information event at the Trinity Arts Centre, Castlerea on Wednesday, September 23rd from 12 noon–2 p.m. to outline the range of supports available through LEO. Topics include grant aid, green for business, lean for business, digital for business, mentoring, training and exports. There will also be an opportunity to meet a business advisor one-to-one to discuss the supports available to help your business grow and succeed.
Threen NS will hold a 5K run and walk on Sunday, September 20th at 11 a.m. in the Trien area. This is a fun, family-friendly event suitable for all fitness levels, whether you want to run, walk or bring the whole family along. Entry, €15 individual, €30 family. All welcome. The death occurred peacefully on September 2nd at Sligo University Hospital of Mrs Bridie Donnellan (née Crean) Cloonfower, Castlerea. Predeceased by her husband, Michael, daughter, Katherine, and brother, Tom. Deceased was a woman of great faith. She was very proud of her family and adored her grandchildren and loved when they would come to visit her. Over the years she was always interested in flowers and took great pride in her flower garden, winning many prizes for her flowers at horticultural shows all over Connacht. Along with her late husband Michael, they ran a shop in Cloonfower for many years and sold the Sunday papers outside Cloonbonniffe Church every Sunday after Mass. Her late husband Michael was a top class musician and had his own band for many years. He was a great friend of the late Leo Beirne, Loughglynn. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she will be sadly missed by her devoted family, daughters, Mary, Martina, Barbara and Claire; sister, Mary; grandchildren, Edel, Christopher, Michaela, Martha, and Maia; sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours, and friends. Her remains were removed form Gaynor’s Funeral Home to St. Brigid’s Church, Cloonbonniffe, and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. Kevin Reynolds, burial took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea. The ceremony was enhanced by the singing and music of Jacqueline Kenny. Before the final blessing, her grandchildren Edel, Michaela, Martha and Maia sang ‘Caledonia’. The reflection was read by her daughter Martina. May Bridie’s gentle soul rest in peace.
The winning bonus ball number in Castlerea Golf Club’s lotto for September 9th was number 29. Winners of this week’s lotto were Maura Henry, Sean O’Sullivan, Gerry O’Keeffe, Ger Farragher, and Fintan McSharry. Each receive €100.
Congratulations are extended to Ann Mannon, Tarmon, Castlerea, who celebrated her 70th birthday with her family and friends in Hester’s on Saturday, August 29th. Ann chose to mark the occasion to raise funds for Cancer Care West with raffles and an auction held on the night featuring a wide range of prizes and items generously donated for the fundraiser. Ann thanked everyone for their support. A great night was had by all. Here’s wishing Ann many more happy birthdays in the years ahead.
Congratulations are extended to Bernie Mulvihill who celebrated her 70th birthday with family and friends at the Mulvihill Friday evening gathering club on Friday, August 28th. There was plenty of food and a beautiful cake provided by the Friday night ladies club and of course great music provided by Tommy and Sean Moran, Terry McGowan and Kevin Garvey, Joanie Beatty and songs from Padraic Newman, Eugene Collins, Brian Keavney and Joe O’Hara. Castlerea St. Kevin’s underage teams lost three county semi-finals on Tuesday night, September 1st. The Division 1 minor team who were going for three in a row were defeated by Padraig Pearses, in the county semi-final by three points. They played some great football all through and never threw in the towel. The club wishes Padraig Pearses the best of luck in the final. All roads lead to the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon, on Friday, September 18th when Timmy Donnelly from the Fourmilehouse area will celebrate his 70th birthday. Timmy who has been travelling to Lourdes for the past 49 years with the Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to help with the assisted pilgrims is giving all donations on the night to the Lourdes Assisted Pilgrim Fund. A presentation on Ballintubber Castle’s archaeology dig, by Dr Niall Brady, will take place on Monday, September 21st at 6.45 p.m. in The Old Schoolhouse, Ballintubber. Come along and hear all about the discoveries and work carried out during this year’s dig.

Ballymoe FC is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The weekend will start with the senior team playing their first home game of the season versus St John’s Athletic on Friday, September 25th at 8 p.m.. All support for the team on the night would be appreciated. On Saturday, September 26th all look forward to welcoming everyone to Ballymoe FC pitch for an afternoon and evening of football, memories, and community celebration. There will be underage games from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.. Celebrations will commence at 5.30 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend at the pitch at Ballymoe FC. This will be followed at 6.30 p.m. by a football game between past players in a Legends Match. After the football, the celebrations will move on to The Tavern for refreshments, a raffle, and plenty of time to share memories and celebrate past glories. Fifty years of dedication, commitment, and community spirit is a wonderful achievement. The club hopes you can join in as all mark this special milestone together.
