The Mid-Roscommon Vintage Club launched its 3rd annual Harvest Day Festival on Saturday last when members harvested oats for the upcoming event. The oats were kindly donated by Derek Stuart and his son Farmer Phil, of YouTube fame from County Longford. Club members with the aid of the renowned Rathcline Reapers assembled in a cornfield outside Killashee where the cutting of the oats crop officially launched the festival. The crop was harvested using implements and machines from yesteryear. The laborious method of cutting corn with scythes and tying sheaves by hand and stooking was given. Then the reaper and binder were introduced operated by Timmy Nolan and Noel Kearney and the work seemed so easy as the machine advanced through the crop discharging tied sheaves of oats every few seconds. The club now has its supply of oats which will be part of the festival on September 20th when it will be threshed on the day. Many thanks to the Stuart family, the machine operators, the caterers who produced tea and sandwiches for the hungry work force and to all the helpers who made the event a day of fun. There will be more details published later of the different activities and attractions that will be the makeup of the show, which this year it is hoped will be bigger and more interesting than ever before.
On Sunday, August 23rd the Roscommon Sports and Classic Car Club will be back at Strokestown Park House for a Day Of Automotive History. With hundreds of stunning classic, vintage and rare vehicles on display, there’ll be plenty to see throughout the day. And with the beautiful grounds of Strokestown Park as the backdrop, why not make a day of it and bring along a picnic to enjoy with family and friends? Last year saw over 2,000 visitors and around 500 incredible vehicles through the gates. Last weekend Strokestown Tidy Towns flew the flag for the event. The Roscommon Sports & Classic Car Club RSCC Day of Automotive History is one of the largest gatherings of sports, classic and historic cars in the country and is timed perfectly with Heritage Week.

A special mention for the good music that helped create such a brilliant atmosphere and, as always, a massive thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who gave their time and energy to make the morning happen. Thank you to everyone who came along, whether running, walking, volunteering or cheering. All are already looking forward to seeing everyone again on Saturday.
Strokestown Tidy Towns would like to take the opportunity to thank the hundreds of people from the Strokestown area who offered support and volunteered to assist in watering during the recent dry spell. In true Strokestown fashion the willingness to support, assist and bolster the efforts of the small number of people involved was immeasurable. The rainwater harvesting system has proven a huge success with the 3,000 litres collected over the winter almost fully depleted. Being able to measure water usage, is almost as important as measuring the support from those who support the group's efforts. A very special mention to Annalieze Lambert and her brilliant ladies, the Strokestown Women's Shed who have been brilliant in looking after the raised beds in the grotto
