Ballaghaderreen golfers enjoying a scramble to kickstart the golfing calendar in Ballaghaderreen.

Ballaghaderreen Golf Club has got its golfing year off to a flying start with Lady Captain Sarah McDonagh and Men’s Captain Danny Browne leading the way with a drive-in and social scramble. BGC will host an introductory evening for new ladies wishing to try out this great game. Light refreshments will be provides along with information and all you need to know as a new recruit. No equipment required initially and all your queries will be answered in a friendly relaxed atmosphere on Monday, April 8th at 7.30 p.m.. All are looking forward to welcoming new ladies on the night.

FUNERAL MINISTRY TEAMS PLANNED 

Due to the declining number of priests and in response to suggestions received as part of the Synodal process the Diocese of Achonry hopes to establish a Funeral Ministry Team in each parish to initially assist and shadow the priest.

It is hoped to find and train two people in each church area for this ministry in the parish. Please contact Fr. Paul on 087 3693535 of the parish office on 094 9860011 if interested.

IRISH CLASSES 

Free Irish classes for adults are starting in St Aiden's NS Monasteraden on Tuesday, April 29th, 2 p.m.-3 p.m. for ten weeks. This is an education initiative provided by Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim Education and Training Board and funded by the Department of Education.

TRIEN PLAYERS PRESENT ‘MAMMY'S BOY'

Trien Players present ‘Mammy's Boy', a three act comedy by Jimmy Keary in the Trinity Arts Centre, Castlerea on Thursday, April 4th, Friday, April 5th and Sunday, April 7th, nightly at 8.30 p.m.. Tickets available on the door each night. Admission, adults €10/children €5. The play tells the story of the return of the prodigal son Hughie McGarry, much to his mother Maisie's delight. However his sister Betty and Maisie's friend Joe suspects his motives.

KILMURRY HALL DANCE

 The monthly dance continues in Kilmurry Hall on Sunday, April 7th with music by Colm Bourke. Dancing from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Admission, €10. Come along for a great night of dancing.

COUNTY SENIOR SCÓR FINAL 

County Senior Scór Finals took place in Kilmurry Hall on Good Friday night. A great night of Irish culture was celebrated and supported by a large crowd of spectators. Congratulations to all competitors but in particular, those who won through to the next round.

COOTEHALL, CROSSNA & DRUMBOYLAN 

 MUSIC SESSION IN CLEEN HALL

The next traditional music session, with Liam Purcell and friends, will take place in Crossna Community Centre, Cleen Hall (F52A497) on Sunday, April 7th at 4 p.m.. All are welcome, those who want to practise in a group and anyone who wants to come and listen. Young people under sixteen need to have a parent/guardian in attendance.

 Ardcarne Parish Graveyards Committee is currently preparing a website. The committee would be very grateful if anyone who has any old photographs of Kileenan New or Old Graveyards would e- mail ardcarneparishgraveyards@gmail.com. DEFIBRILLATOR MOVED 

Cootehall, Crossna Drumboylan Defibrillator Group wish to inform the people of the parish that the defibrillator at Liam Purcell’s has been moved to Clancy's Bar, Knockvicar as its previous location was a safety concern, due to the increased volume of traffic on the road.

DRUMBOYLAN NS CLOTHES COLLECTION 

Drumboylan NS is hosting a clothes collection as a fundraiser for the school on Thursday, April 18th. If you have any unwanted clothes/shoes/bags/belts, please support the collection by donating. Items that are not accepted are duvets, blankets, bedding and pillows. Bags can be dropped off from Monday, April 8th during school hours or on the morning of the collection before 10 a.m.. If you would like to donate items before the collection date, please contact the school in advance by emailing drumboylanns@gmail.com.

CHURCH FUNDRAISER

The people of Drumboylan are holding an event, which is based on all the horses running at Aintree this year in the Grand National. Tickets are on sale at €2 each or a book of 10 tickets for €15. First prize €400, second prize €200, third prize €100 and fourth prize €50. Draw in Drumboylan Community Centre on April 13th 2024.

SENIOR SCÓR COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to the newly crowned Roscommon Senior Scór County Champions, Niamh Reynolds who won the Solo Singing title, and to Aoife & Cathal Guckian, Chloe McGuinness & Niamh Reynolds who combined to take the Senior Ballad Group title. A special word of congratulations also to their dedicated mentor, Ann-Marie Harte, and to St. Michael’s proud Cultural Officer, Geraldine McMorrow, who keeps the Scór flag flying in St Michael's, and to the quiz team who competed well on the night. Congratulations also to neighbours St Ronan's who won the Instrumental Music title, and to all the other winners who will represent Roscommon in the Connacht Finals on Sunday, April 14th.
