There were 43 finishers at another sunny Strokestown parkrun. Organisers were delighted to welcome so many first timers to the course, and they hope you all really enjoyed it. Gavin Gleeson, a first timer at Strokestown was also the first man across the line in a speedy time of 20:23. He was followed closely by Gavin O'Reilly and Cian Crosbie. The first two ladies at the finish were Gillian Regan and Kaitlyn Caslin. Congrats to Odhran Hall, Gillian Regan, Paul Egan, Jerome Engelbrecht, Maire Mullooly, Tomas Diffley and Sean Keaveney on all of the personal bests. Thanks as always to the brilliantly helpful team of volunteers who make the event happen. New volunteers always welcome, so please consider joining any Saturday morning for a great social outlet.

Couples celebrating their silver, ruby, diamond, platinum or other wedding anniversaries are invited to attend one of two Masses along with their families and friends on either Sunday, October 4th at 2.30 p.m., at Ballaghaderreen Cathedral or Sunday, October 11th at 2.30 p.m. at Kiltoom Church. Bishop Kevin Doran will celebrate both Masses. Light refreshments will be served afterwards for all in attendance. As each couple celebrating an anniversary will receive a certificate from the Bishop, they are asked to register their details at www,achonryelphin.ie.
The cemetery committee thank all those who donated to the recent collection for the continued maintenance and upkeep of Strokestown Cemetery.

The Living Well Programme helps people with a long term health condition and helps improve their overall wellbeing. Anyone with any chronic illness can benefit from these workshops. A new programme will start in Boyle on Wednesday, September 9th from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m., continuing for six weeks. Places are free and HSE funded but advance registration is required. The death took place recently at Roscommon Hospice of Mrs Alison Rowkins of Mount Pleasant, Strokestown, wife of Mr David Rowkins. She had resided in the area for many years where she made many firm friends. She loved life, fishing. attending bingo sessions with her friends, and maintaining her beautiful garden. News of her passing was heard of with deep regret among her relatives, neighbours and all of her many friends. She was predeceased by her daughter, Suzanne. A private family cremation took place at Cavan Crematorium. She is survived by her husband, children, Karen and John, grandchildren, Leah, Cyle, Tianna, Lucas and Kayla, great-grandchildren, Alice, Zoe, Kaiden, Dax, Evy, Mia and Rhea, sister, Lyn, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, Graham and Bill, and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Roscommon SPCA will hold its annual church gate collection at the Church of the Sacred Heart & St. Barry, Whitehall, Tarmonbarry on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th. Roscommon SPCA is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly to animal welfare in the county.
