With so many on-going projects having been brought to fruition in recent years, members are taking a slightly more relaxed approach to the year ahead. However, there are further projects in the pipeline and members are currently in the process of planning for the year. This involves both the continuation of ongoing projects and the commencement of new ones.

The community has just lost one of its very special members with the death of Mrs Kathleen Conway (nee Moyles), Cloomahara. Though in failing health for some time, news of her passing caused widespread sorrow and sadness. She was a gentle, kind and friendly person, whose natural warmth endeared her to so many. She was generous to a fault, and her patient nature enabled her to accept her illness with faith and dignity. The warm words spoken by her niece, Marie at the beginning of her Funeral Mass and the meaningful homily from Fr. Anthaiah conveyed clearly the special characteristics of Kathleen. She always took great pride in her work, whether in the home, in the garden, which was very special to her, or in all the daily chores which came so easy to her. She was very close to nature, as shown clearly by her love of all flowers and plants, and, of course, the family dog was very special. She was a person of strong faith who, in addition to regularly attending Mass and the Sacraments, also lived out her strong Christian values on a daily basis. Kathleen and her husband, Jarlath had a great life and regularly attended concerts, plays, music sessions etc. They were great community people who supported, without fail, all the positive, charitable events in the locality. The passing of Kathleen leaves a great void, not just for Jarlath and her other immediate loved ones, but for all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Sincere sympathy to her husband, Jarlath; brother, Michael; sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and the very special neighbours, whose unwavering support for the family at this challenging time meant so much.
There was a deep sense of shock and sadness when the news broke of the unexpected death of Mr Eamon Brennan of Cornamaddy, Lecarrow, Roscommon who passed away peacefully at his home on January 29th. Eamon was the youngest of a family of 12 children, born in March 1941 to his parents Michael and Mary ‘Ciss’ Brennan. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife at a young age, four sisters and six brothers. He was born and grew up in his loving home in Cornamaddy, attended the local national school in St. John’s.
As time went on Eamon, like many his age in those years, made the decision to travel to England and joined some of his siblings who were already there. He took up employment and enjoyed his experience and made many friends there. After some years he returned home. With Eamon’s passion for machinery including cars and tractors he was soon offered a job as a mechanic with a well-known garage and was regarded as an excellent mechanic. In later years he and his two brothers Mick and Vincent took over a very well-known fuel business in Athlone, and they became very well-known over the wide area, supplying fuel such as coal, turf etc to so many households and businesses for a long number of years. They will long be remembered for their efficiency and caring manner in dealing with so many of their customers. Apart from his working career Eamonn had a deep love for music, singing and dancing and most weeks he would have gone dancing three to four nights. His dance card was never empty. It was often remarked that he would be first to take to the floor. He attended and danced all over the country at different venues. He will be sorely missed by his many dancing friends.
A true gentleman in every sense of the word, quiet and unassuming yet always wonderful company. He was also a beautiful singer and was always ready to come forth to render some of his traditional songs at whatever function or party he attended. He will be sadly missed by the social dancing community as evidenced by the many heartfelt condolences. Apart from his singing and dancing he held another great interest, vintage machinery. Eamon had a great love for displaying his vintage farm machinery at various shows around the county with his good friend Jimmy Doron for over 20 years. He always took time to explain to those interested about machinery and it worked. A wonderful neighbour and friend to so many near and far, he was always prepared to help whenever the need arose. The rest of his time he was just so happy on the home farm looking after his cattle which ran to the gate to meet him at the sound of his tractor starting. Beloved husband of Mary, he is now sadly missed by his brother, Vincent, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
Eamon reposed at Smyth’s Funeral Home in Roscommon followed by removal to St. John's Church, Lecarrow for Mass of the Resurrection on Monday, February 2nd with burial afterwards in Drum Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
