Fifth and Sixth Years from Abbey Community College attended a Worldskills event in Dublin last week.
Looking for a chance to get creative, connect, and enjoy some good company? Plant, Build & Chat is a six-week course starting at Boyle Family Resource Centre on Wednesday, October 8th, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. This is designed especially for men of all ages. Together, all will build a willow structure, do some hands-on planting, share conversation, ideas, and have plenty of laughs along the way. It’s the perfect opportunity to socialise, learn new skills, and be part of a rewarding community project. All men welcome. Young SVP: Helen Ralph visited during the week to encourage Fifth Year students to join Young St. Vincent de Paul Young SVP. Helen will return to continue with a set of workshops for all students involved in the coming weeks. Twenty eight students have signed up so far and the school encourages as many as possible to get involved.
Stay Safe Stay Sober: Monday saw a visit from Community Garda Tanya Duffy and WRDTAF outreach worker Gillian Conway giving the Stay Safe Stay Sober talk to TY and Fifth Year students awaiting their Junior Cycle results in early October.
First Year Camogie: Well done to the First Year camogie team who participated in a First Year Connacht Blitz in the Centre of Excellence. The girls had a competitive performance against a strong St Raphael’s team and enjoyed two great wins over Clarin College and Calasanctius College.
Senior Camogie: Well done to the senior camogie team who secured a draw in the opening round of their competition. Abbey CC 2-6, Cois Fharraige 1-9.
Worldskills Day: Fifth and Sixth Years had a brilliant time at the Worldskills event in Dublin last week. It was an excellent opportunity for students to explore different career pathways and gain insight into apprenticeships and trades in Ireland.
First Year Cookery: The First Year Home Economics students made tasty treats in their various home economics classes during the week. Well done everyone.
Afternoon concert in King's House: Second Year students enjoyed an impromptu concert in the beautiful King House on Wednesday afternoon. Students were entertained by 'Interractions-Chamber Music from Romania and Ireland'. Selected works by Romanian and Irish composers were presented alongside iconic pieces from the classical repertoire. A huge thank you to Tish Golden from King House for inviting the students.

There will be a creative brain health event, organised by Roscommon Dementia Alliance Committee, at King House, Boyle, on Wednesday, October 15th from 10 a.m., to 1.30 p.m., with inspiring speakers, music, dance and art, which will showcase how creativity supports brain health. The final stages of the latest museum redevelopment phase at King House, Boyle by the Connaught Rangers is underway with the installation of new display cases with the aid of Alphaset Ltd..
Well done to Boyle Basketball Club’s Sophie Beirne and Grace Healy who have been chosen for the Basketball Ireland U-15 Connacht Academy.

The death occurred on September 22nd, peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family and in the tender care of the palliative care team and home care, of Mr David Gillespie, Mount Prospect, Knockvicar, Boyle. Pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy, son, Andrew, parents Lancelot and Anna and brother Jim. David will be deeply missed by his loving, sons, Hugh, Miles and Ian; daughters, Vida and Fiona and their partners, Wendy, Carol, Wendy, Craig, Rob and Margaret; grandchildren Luke, Dan, Katie, Simon, David, Laura, Robert, Craig, Matthew, Joseph, Anna and Vida; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family, neighbours and his many friends. Funeral Service took place on Thursday, September 25th in St. Beide’s Church, Ardcarne followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Congratulations to St Michaels/St Ronan's Lgfa who took home the Sean Daly Cup after a very enjoyable one day competition on Saturday in the Abbey Park. A number of teams took part on the day with some fine displays of football all round. The deserving winners were up against Kilmore/Kilglass in the final. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the day.
