A special Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 13th at 6 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea, for the late Garda John Morley, Garda Henry Byrne and Garda Colm Horkan. All welcome.

GOLF LOTTO 

The winning bonus ball number in Castlerea Golf Club’s lotto for June 4th was number 11. Winners of this week’s lotto were Damien Garvey. Liam Callaghan, Larry Kearney, Michael O’Connell and Rose Callaghan. Each receive €100.

ST. PAUL’S SCHOOL JUNIOR LEAGUE 

The St. Paul’s School Junior League for the late Paddy Bruen Shield and the Senior League for the late John F Glavey Cup got underway on Tuesday last with a full round of games played in both leagues. There were some great displays by players in both leagues and some great scores were taken. The leagues are again being organised by vice-principal Cynthia O’Connor with principal Olivia McGary and the teachers in the school are all playing their part in the success of the leagues. The games were referred by teacher Thomas Reilly, Danny Burke and past pupil David Walsh who went into First Year in Castlerea Community School last September. CONGRATULATIONS 

Congratulations are extended to former Castlerea, St. Kevin’s player Con Nolan, Claremorris, on receiving his award for 25 years’ service with the Claremorris No Name Club. Con, who is a native of Castlerea, was a member of An Garda Siochana as was his late father who was stationed in Castlerea. Con was also a fine footballer and played with Castlerea and St. Kevin’s in all grades. He won a senior county championship in 1971, U-21 in 1970, R.U. 1971, U-15 1965/66, R.U. 1968, Minor R.U. 1970/71.

CLOONBONNIFFE NS CELEBRATIONS 

Cloonbonniffe NS is celebrating 150 years of earning on June 14th from 2 p.m.-5 p.m.. All friends of the school are welcome to attend on this special day. Come along and enjoy a special occasion.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION 

 The annual Corpus Christi procession will take place on Sunday, June 22nd after 12 noon Mass (weather permitting). All parishioners, young and old and all organisations are invited to participate to make it a memorable celebration of faith in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The pupils from all schools, primary and secondary, are particularly invited with special emphasis on all First Communicants and Confirmandi. The route this year is St. Patrick Street towards the Station, Church Road to Aras Mhathair Phoil for Benediction and returning via Roselawn Drive to the church. Households are requested to put out an altar, bunting and flags to mark this special occasion.

LATE MRS MARY KEARNEY

 The death occurred peacefully on Thursday, May 29th, surrounded by her loving family, at Altadore Nursing Home, Glenageary, County Dublin of Mrs Mary Kearney, (nee Murphy), Lios an Uisce, Knockroe, Castlerea. Predeceased by her husband James (Jimmy), deceased was a great family person who loved her family and she adored her grandchildren and loved when they would come to visit her and looked forward to family gatherings. She was a member of the Castlerea Bridge Club for many years. She ran the Fearna Manor Nursing Home in Knockroe for over 30 years. She was a woman of great faith, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she will be sadly missed by her daughter, Carmel (Whelan); son, Seamus; son-in-law, John and daughter-in-law, Catherine. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Moya, Siobhan, Jamie, Jack, Sadhbh, Clara and Zoe; her sisters, Honor and Catherine; brothers-in-law, Brendan Kearney and Pat Byrne as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends. Her remains were removed from her home on Saturday morning to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea, and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. John McManus, burial took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea. The ceremony was enhanced by the singing and music of Jacqueline Kenny with Mary’s grandchildren Zoe and Jamie rendering some songs. Before the final blessing, her son Seamus gave a eulogy on Mary’s life. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

CASTLEPLUNKETT/ KILMURRY 

FUNCTION FOR CANON DEVINE

Canon Liam Devine celebrates 55 year as a priest this month. Canon Liam was ordained a priest on June 21st, 1970. A function will take place to celebrate his 55 years as a priest on Friday, June 20th. More details next week. The next meeting to organise the function will take place on Tuesday, June 10th in Kilmurry Hall at 9 p.m.. All welcome to attend.

SYMPATHY 

Sincere sympathy is extended to Cllr Liam Callaghan, his wife Joan and his family and extended family on the passing of Liam's father and former councillor and Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Tom Callaghan. Tom passed away on Tuesday, June 3rd. Mass of the Resurrection took place on Friday, June 6th in St. Paul's Church, Kilmurry. Burial took place afterwards in Rathmoyle Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy is also extended to the Peyton family, Rathmoyle, on the passing of John Peyton on Sunday, May 11th in London. Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, May 31st in St. Paul's Church, Kilmurry with burial afterwards in Rathmoyle Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

MONTHLY DANCE

Kilmurry Hall's monthly dance will take place on Sunday, July 6th. Music by Stuart Moyles. Dancing from 8 to 10 p.m.. Admission €10. All welcome to come alone for another great night of dancing.

CEMETERY MASS 

The annual mass in Rathmoyle Cemetery took place on Sunday. A good crowd gathered and the weather remained dry for the duration. Many thanks to all organisers and volunteers involved in the celebration. Thanks to Fr. Devine who celebrated the mass.
