A CycleUp intermediate (Level 2) course will be taking place in The Shambles, Ballaghaderreen, running for six weeks, every Tuesday, starting September 1st from 10 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.. To sign up call 086 809 8539.
Ballaghaderreen GAA’s 50/50 draw was held in Durkins Bar& Restaurant last weekend. Winner of €755 was Johnathan King, Knockmore. Next draw is in Mannion’s Bar . Tickets available throughout the town, from the Saturday night sellers and on Clubforce.com.
Family Carers Ireland will be delivering a seven-week workshop to support those caring for family members, starting October 7th – and running until November 28th every Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 12 noon. To sign up call 086 809 8539.
Ballaghaderreen Men’s Shed recently mourned the loss of much-valued member Kevin Ryan. The group has expressed its sincere gratitude to the Ryan family for their continued support. Despite coping with Kevin’s sudden passing, Mary, Danny and the girls raised in excess of €1,800 for the Men’s Shed, a gesture that was deeply appreciated. Kevin had returned home five times since Christmas and visited the Shed on each occasion, reflecting how important it was to him. The Shed continues to provide a safe and welcoming space where men can enjoy good company, friendship and support. Members were also greatly honoured to meet President Connolly and were heartened to hear of the President’s strong appreciation for the important role Men’s Sheds play in promoting men’s mental health and wellbeing.
A second open engagement event on the emerging masterplan for the Ballaghaderreen Plots will take place at Ballaghaderreen Public Library, Market Square on this Thursday, August 27th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Members of the public are invited to drop in and have their say, share their thoughts and provide feedback on the developing masterplan for the Plots. Anyone who is unable to attend but would still like to contribute their views can email streets@studiodwg.com.
The Ballaghaderreen Women’s Shed will kick off the new term on Tuesday, September 1st at 11 a.m. with the fabulous Mildred Beirne leading the steps. From there, a bumper schedule of fun and activities is planned right through to December. New faces are always welcome, and anyone interested is encouraged to pop in and see what the group is all about. Mayo 11th Scouts Carracastle reopens for the new season on Monday, September 14th. Scouting offers young people the opportunity to learn valuable life skills and a strong value system through hands-on learning. Scouting is focused on helping young people build confidence, learn useful practical skills, teamwork and foster independence. Operating within supportive small teams guided by adults, participants progress at their own pace while actively contributing to their club and community. The local scout group, Mayo 11th Carracastle, runs every week on a Monday evening in Carracastle Community Centre, and is open for new and returning scouts aged from six years to 12 years. A candlelight vigil to mark World Suicide Prevention Day will take place on Thursday, September 10th at 7 p.m. in the Garden of Remembrance, Market Street. The event will remember loved ones who have died, and everyone is welcome to join those gathered afterwards for refreshments at The Shambles Community Resource Centre. The project is funded by Ballaghaderreen Community Resource Centre.
The Ballagh GAA senior team fell to a dominant Knockmore side at the weekend. A glorious evening saw both teams start slowly, but Knockmore shifted through the gears and led at half time by 1-11 to 3 points. Ballagh rallied early in the second half with a goal but Knockmore again responded and ran out winners by 1-24 to 1-09 FC 50/50 The 50/50 club draw on Tuesday last, with a jackpot of €240, was won by Dolores Brennan, Lung, and the winning ticket sold by The Hatch. The next draw will take place on Tuesday, August 25th at the Community Park. The club thanks everyone for their continued support and reminds supporters that tickets are available from outlets throughout the town and online at Clubforce.com, with annual tickets also available for €90.

The family sports day at Tibohine Community Centre, which was due to take place on Sunday, August 23rd last was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Apologies for any inconvenience. There are some fun events planned for later in the year so keep an eye out.
Scrabble takes place every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ballaghaderreen Library. Crafty Notions group for any type of needle work meets every Friday at 10 a.m..
