A €1.1m engineering contract has been advertised by Roscommon County Council to advance a new scheme for the long awaited N61 Tulsk to Clashaganny Road project.

In a recently advertised tender, the council is seeking specialist consultancy services to progress elements of the new Part 8 scheme.

The main nature of this contract, valued at approximately €1.1m excluding VAT, will cover a range of engineering services.

The road project, primarily aimed at improving road safety, will provide an upgrade of this 4km section which has a collision rate above the national average.

13 injury collisions - one fatal, one serious and eleven non-serious injury collisions - were recorded on this dangerous stretch of road between 2004 and 2020.

A previous N61 Tulsk to Clashaganny Road scheme, valued at €20m, was previously approved by councillors in February 2023 but it subsequently became the subject of a High Court judicial review.

However, Roscommon County Council said at that time it would not contest the judicial review.

The time-limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate in this current tender for engineering services is April 9th 2026 and the contract duration is 24 months.

Roscommon National Roads Regional Office (RNRRO) has been commissioned by the local authority to advance this major road project.
