€2.834m in Government funding has been allocated to support capital projects at Ireland West Airport Knock.

€2.834m in Government funding has been allocated to support capital projects at Ireland West Airport Knock.

The funding has been announced by Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien as part of €8m in Exchequer funding for regional airports under the Regional Airports Programme 2026-2030.

The funding will enable capital investment in safety and security at Knock airport, alongside support for sustainability focused projects. 

This will assist the airport in achieving its carbon reduction targets as well as building resilience against climate change.

Minister O’Brien said: “This funding will support connectivity and balanced regional development while seeking to maximise the use of existing capacity across our regional airports."

He said the funding would also enable the completion of a solar PV farm project at Ireland West Airport, which will provide the airport with electricity from renewable resources.

The approved projects at Knock airport in 2026 are:

• Electrical upgrade project 

• Solar PV farm (Year 2 of 2) 

• Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) 

• Apron safety and remedial works 

• Security body scanner 

• Security LAGs recheck workstations 

• Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) spares and ACMS panel update 

• Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) spares 

• Airfield rubber removal and line marking
