The council is investigating a recent incident of fly tipping and is following a specific line of inquiry.

Over the weekend communities in Moore, South Roscommon and Ballyleague were shocked and angered at incidents of illegal dumping.

The council said it was aware of the illegal dumping incidents near Kilbegley Cemetery in Moore, as well as littering in Ballyleague.

“The littering incident in Ballyleague was not formally reported to the council,” a spokesperson said. “However, the council treats all instances of illegal dumping and littering with the utmost seriousness. Such behaviour is unacceptable, undermines the efforts of local communities, and has a detrimental impact on the environment and public amenities.”

The council’s Litter and Waste Enforcement Team is currently investigating the reported incident in Moore.

“ A specific line of enquiry is being actively pursued, and appropriate enforcement action will be taken where sufficient evidence is available.” It encouraged people to report incidents of illegal dumping and to provide any information that may assist in identifying those responsible.

“Individuals found to be involved in illegal dumping may be subject to fines and potential prosecution,” the spokesperson added. “Roscommon County Council also encourages the use of authorised waste disposal services and civic amenity facilities to ensure waste is managed in a safe and responsible manner.”

It also thanked local community groups and residents for their continued efforts in maintaining their areas, and for their vigilance in reporting environmental concerns.
