Roscommon man Fergal Guihen is to be honoured by his local community this week.
This Friday evening at 7.30pm, the Arigna Recreational Enhancement Association is asking people to come out to the Arigna Community Park to unveil a tribute to Fergal Guihen, “our very own ‘Rossie to Aussie’”.
“Fergal will be with us on the evening, and this is our chance — as neighbours, friends, and supporters — to come together and show him just how proud we are of the monumental feat he has achieved,” the group said on social media.
“His journey has inspired so many, and this tribute is a celebration of both his accomplishment and the community that has cheered him on every step of the way.
“Let’s turn out in numbers for this short ceremony, share the moment, and give Fergal the homecoming he deserves.” Fergal departed Ireland in March 2024 and arrived at Sydney Opera House, Australia in February 2026, completing an extraordinary cycling expedition that took him through some of the world’s most remote and demanding terrain.
An emergency medicine nurse, Fergal raised an astounding €210,110 for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice & NorthWest Stop charity through his 30,000km cycle.
